hey guys i am curious if anyone has had a problem with there saves befor.
so i saved a game Manually Last Night. as im doing a Youtube Series gameplay what ever.
i woke up and loaded the game. and clicked on my Manual Save game i did last night. but for some reason it kicks me to when "aloy was a small child" like the save i think must of did something because i got to level 9 last night and i booted up the Save File. and for some reason. it chucked me all the to the beginning of the game. where u have to redo everything unless. there's a fix for it. any Info would be great. since im doing Youtube Content. i hate to lose this Series and have to Start over lol and i am unsure what is going on either lmao

So far no problems...but I've been playing the game only for less than 5 hours. I wonder if you save file got corrupted, somehow...

Saw some threads about saves seeming to be missing. Quite a few threads on page 2

Maybe you should do something about taking backups...?

Well, games on Steam should save on the cloud in theory, so that's the backup. Of course if the synching is off, or one plays offline....

Cloud saves aren't backups. Sometimes they'll serve as one-- if you get lucky.

However, cloud saves are not reliable since they are not under your control and they do not keep all prior versions of the files.

Of course if the synching is off, or one plays offline....
Real backups work regardless of whether Steam cloud is working perfectly or not.

Caution re saves for any Steam Game and probably others as well

If the forum cautions about anti-virus/malware then White List the entire directory
If the forum hesitates about Steam Cloud, don't use it. Except when you are switching between systems and have to use it. Then login start the game after setting save to cloud, load game from old save. Then Save again so it will correctly access the cloud

If you are using some 3rd party cloud platform Sorry, you'll regret it
Dark Souls, Prepare to Die Edition routinely got its saves corrupted by 3rd party cloud backups DURING play, and 3rd party anti- parties as well.

Once bitten, learn how to do manual backups

Good Luck, one and all
FYI the save games location on your system is:
C:\Users\<Your User Name>\Documents\Horizon Zero Dawn\Saved Game

There are 62 folders there for save games, each folder is named for the type of save game (AutoSave, ManualSave or QuickSave) plus either base game or NG+. There are 20 slots for each type, split between 10 slots for base game plus 10 slots for NG+. There's also a special save for your NG+ starting save and a folder for your profile.

Many people have issues with Steam Cloud and simply disable it altogether so as to avoid such issues as losing your save games. I'd suggest checking your local saves to see if your save games are still there. It sounds as if Steam Cloud synced your saves early on but then failed to sync your later saves and is now trying to load an earlier save. Your local saves may still be available, so if they are then try disabling Steam Cloud and see if the game then uses your local saves instead of cloud saves.

Really? That sucks, lol...anyway, there's a bat file around that can be used to manually save and restore save files, in case someone need that option.
I haven't tried it, but it should work, from what I've seen
