8/10. As a game developer, Icarus has a very strong game design with some flaws that can be fixed or improved. It seems that Icarus is already using some mechanics from Satisfactory, Rust, and Enshrouded. However, there's some pieces that are missing which makes this game seem "unpolished" or "jank".

Here is what I like about Icarus vs. other survival games:
- The talent tree: the character progression through leveling, which unlocks passive skills to improve your quality of life. It also has a solo talent tree to offset difficulty playing solo, so that's a unique detail.
- A lot of content: it takes a long time to develop this amount of stuff, and somehow, they managed to make this much that keeps you playing for hundreds of hours. I don't think people realize how difficult it is for a small studio to do this, but many (including myself) would've stopped adding new content after 1-2 years of development. They're still going, so there's definitely passion coming from them.
- Game difficulty is mostly based on your progression and knowledge: It is so easy to get started in this game once you've gone through the first mission tutorial, but after that, you're truly left alone to survive and learn the game. There's plenty of in-game documentation that can help you learn, and I think a lot of other reviewers are missing that. There's no hand-holding and it's probably not recommended for first-time survival players, but that doesn't make it a bad survival game at all.
- Large pre-built world design with procedurally generated resources.
- Technological progression: It's hard to fathom how much progression you can make. From sticks and stones to full-blown space equipment, this can be comparable to Satisfactory's progression, but honestly it's hard to compare them because they're entirely different game designs. Nevertheless, you can make a lot of cool stuff in Icarus.

Here's what I don't like about Icarus:
- I'm disappointed that there isn't a lot of animal / enemy types. The game is set in a sci-fi universe, so there's a ton of freedom to make all types of unique NPCs. Yet, there's only a couple of NPCs that get re-used, but with their level as difficulty scaling. So you'll be fighting a level 9 wolf to a level 70, same with the other types of animals.
- You're completely bottlenecked on progression based on your level. Once you're midway through the game, it takes a long time to level up. Once you get to Tier 3 or 4, you're stuck with trying to level up for hours just to get points for unlocking stuff. I feel like this can be improved by two methods: scale up the points rewarded as you level, or reward points for completing missions.

I would definitely use Icarus as a reference for making my next survival game, but Icarus is a great survival game itself. I didn't mention anything about the performance because:
1: Performance is based on your hardware specs & drivers.
2: I didn't run into any performance issues.

Sent crash files for the whole time I actively played this game, even joined the discord for some help. The devs do not take criticism well at all. If you purchased the supporter bundle you got screwed later on as the bundle promised to include updated content. That bundle has since been removed from steam. Just like the english language this game is three other games in a buggy trench coat. Would recommend Once Human over this game.

I enjoy playing this game with my son. We are able to split jobs so that I can do things that I like to do like build and organize our stuff and he can do the hunting and mining which he enjoys doing. There is so much to do in every game play and we are working through missions which are keeping us moving. I guess I would say sometimes the world does not seem very friendly and too many incidents happen to be just random. Here is an example: I'm attacked by a wolf, I kill, it. I'm attacked by a horse, I kill it. I run into a bees nest. A lightning storm hits and I am hit by lightning twice and killed. This is a little bit over the top. Oh and the lightning catches me on fire. Yeah, I had to stop playing for the rest of the day but I went back. What can I say, I'm hooked.
