We'll see how it goes, observing from afar.
I'm also worried about what this might mean for controller support, tho. Currently, I wouldn't say playing with a controller is perfect, but it's good enough that I never grab my mouse for anything, even though the cursor is all over the place with a controller. Again, that's something that could surely do with refinement, so I hope it isn't completely scrapped.
All in all, the return of experience and skills is the way to go. That's what the community wanted all along, so yay! I also hope world generation gets an overhaul, cuz currently it's very possible to be locked out of artefacts due to how buildings spawn in the world, making entering them impossible.
Considering that the blog post states "I'm also planning to bring back experience, leveling and skill trees for this version", I think it's safe to say that's gonna be an update rather than a new game.
