It should run on steam deck. We have one and tested it and there have been several players who use it as well. if its crashing please send the crash reports so we can figure out what the issue might be. try verifying the game files if you haven't already.

It does run on my Deck, though I'm running almost all games with Proton GE versions

I, too, am unable to run this game on my Steam deck OLED. It worked previous but now will not open. When I click on "Play" it goes to the loading screen and at the bottom, shows "Downloading Content 0%" and just stays there. I uninstalled and reinstalled the game. Same issue. Never downloads content to play. stays at 0% Game unplayable.
