When the game has incorrectly spelled title, you know its bad...
Chornobyl xD Real story xD
First of all, its spelled Chernobyl and second of all, IDK how they figured out that its a real story since most documents were destroyed about the disaster... Sorry but IDK what is Steam smoking but this is definitely not something I would like to play... Seems like Steam recommendations are taking a huge dumpster dive...

If I have anything to go from, you are from Australia and if that is a real information then I can assure you that Chernobyl is the one and only correct spelling in latin/roman alphabet... On the other hand in cyrillic alphabet its spelled Черно́быль...

Its the same like if you say English and Ingrish... I dont care that one country spells it differently (Ukraine spells Chernobyl with O instead of E), I care about all the other countries that spell it properly... In Japan for example, English is spelled Eigo... Does that mean if we speak English, we can say "I speak Eigo"? No even though if you say this in Japan, they understand so both spellings are correct in Japan but not in the rest of the world... Same goes for Chernobyl where with O its correct in Ukraine but literally anywhere else in EU its spelled with E...

Just to make it even more clear, in Japanese your dear Australia is spelled Ōsutoraria... Doesnt mean that the spelling is correct for you and the rest of the world...

Chornobyl is spelled correctly, just check in any recent English dictionary:

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/Chornobyl%27
https://www.ahdictionary.com/word/search.html?q=Chornobyl%27
https://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english/chornobyl

The pronounciation, too, is different in Ukrainian, which is why you get two different spellings in other languages. Letters rarely transcribe according to a fixed table across languages using different alphabets - even in ones that do; the pronounciation is as important. Finally, don't forget the city is in Ukraine.

Chornobyl -> A city in North Ukraine
Chernobyl -> Nuclear power plant, also the international and Russian name for the city Chornobyl. Name for the power plant was given in Soviet era and also the game plays in Soviet era.

Also "Chernobyl" for the city is correct (international name), for example Köln, München and Braunschweig (cites in Germany) are called Cologne, Munich and Brunswiek.

Is the name of the game wrong? YES! Except you change the language setting to Ukrainian.

it must be wrong if in Ukraine it is called Chornobyl.... when the actual powerplant happens to be in Ukraine....
And if you argument, that at the time of the accident they spoke russian... well, they had to, schools and everything was in russian... still, it was not the first language of the nation...

So it must be wrong that Native Americans were called Indians cuz when UK arrived there, they thought they are in India... Geez man... Soviet Union had many countries... Same as European Union has now... Its all shifting left and right so when you make a game and the game is set in Soviet era, they should make it all periodically correct when they claim its a real story... My argument aint that they were speaking Russian, my argument is that they were a part of Soviet Union and the way Soviet Union called it was Chernobyl... I dont care how "native" people called it cuz it aint in a single book that I had read in school... It was spelled with E everywhere... From Germany to Russia, everyone spelled it Chernobyl...

To counter your agrument with names... It was Pripyat, currently an abandoned city in northern Ukraine, located near the border with Belarus. Named after the nearby river, Pripyat, it was founded on 4 February 1970 as the ninth atomgrad to serve the nearby Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, which is located in the adjacent ghost city of Chernobyl.

Do you read "Chornobyl" in there? I dont... So stop trying to simp for Ukraine and call it the way it is supposed to be called and the name should be changed to "Chornobyl" only in Ukranian localization... If the game is from Ukranian devs, then it makes sense that there is O instead of E which gives me yet another reason not to play it... I had my fair share with Ukranians in past 15 years IRL and I know how much they hate Russians or anyone that descended from Russian origin like myself... So I will stand by proper common spelling "Chernobyl", if you think otherwise, good for you but you aint gonna change my mind nor all the books where its spelled with E...

German -> Tschernobyl

But nobody talks about the city (Tschornobyl would be right then), only about the power plant. And if somebody mentiones a nearby city then it's Prypjat.

Exactly my point though. You have 10 countries and 10 different spellings but only 1 common spelling that is aknowledged everywhere (except Ukraine) so you can spell it any way you want. If it was from POV of a german character, then writing it in german spelling would make sense... Still doesnt changes the point where its spelled incorrectly in English cuz the title is in English which means it should be spelled "Chernobyl". If the title was in German, spell it the German way, I am all good with that...

Has the English title (with wrong spelling) also in German version, titles normally aren't localised because they're names (Microsoft Windows is not Microsoft / Mikroweich Fenster in German, for example). But the description in the shop has correct spelling:
Am 26. April 1986 ereignete sich die größte Nuklearkatastrophe in der Geschichte der Menschheit. Infolge der Explosion und Zerstörung des Reaktors 4 des Kernkraftwerks Tschernobyl wurde eine große Menge radioaktiver Isotope in die Atmosphäre freigesetzt. ...

Except that nobody cares about Ukranian spelling... You use common english and nobody cares that something is spelled differently somewhere else cuz you always use common spelling so if Chernobyl is spelled Chernobyl in 99% of the world, it is indeed the correct common spelling... So once again, it is wrong spelling cuz the title should be in common spelling and Ukranian spelling should be used ONLY in Ukranian localization... Same as other countries use... And or just dont offer the game to english speaking people or to people that look for results in english if its yet another ukranian annoyance...
