Put yourself in the shoes of a delivery courier and send some goofy laughs along with the fragile boxes while you are on duty. Play solo or join your friends to secure the best customer reviews - but keep in mind that the competition can get fierce!

Fierce competitions are common in the delivery industry and you can be a part of them. Start your hovercrafts on a floating platform and confront fellow drivers to knock them off. Beware - the platform will break little by little as time progresses. Try to be the last delivery person standing!

Hey everyone!

Hovercrafts have entered the Totally Reliable universe in a new competitive mode that is out of this world!

The Cyberfunk denizens have passed on their technological secrets to the delivery crew! This is the single greatest discovery to shape the universe for deliveries since the clipboard was invented. But in accordance with Totally Regulatory Safety Committee (Aka ToReSaCo), we need YOU, the players at home, to test these devices before we can allow them to be used. So here comes in our new competitive mode the Hovecraft Derby.

Battle it out in a last person standing free for all! Up to 4 players will put not only their skills but friendships to the test in this hectic hovercraft hullabaloo. Think you got what it takes to be the winner? Find out!

Howdy y'all! Welcome back for a second Developer Update. This week, we’re looking into the world of networking, improvements made in Totally Reliable Delivery service, and the tools our team used to get us there.

Summary
Making online games is hard. Making a ragdoll game in an open world work online across 5 different platforms is even harder. Since our initial release on April 1st, 2020, we’ve made a lot of improvements to our networking system to improve the player’s experience.

While working on these optimizations and updates, our highest priorities are:

• High accuracy for positions and rotations of every physics based object in the game portrayed (including all of the character’s joints and limbs!). This is so the player isn’t rendering 100 ft away from the rocket they’re supposed to be flying!
  
• Fastest possible reaction time for clients.
  
• Lowest amount of network traffic between players in any given server to maintain stability.
  
• Making sure all network objects have a very smooth movement.

Here is a bit of a deeper dive into some of the things we did to make Totally Reliable Delivery Service’s online functionality even better.

Photon Unity Networking

• Photon is a Unity based tool to help our code sync between all our users.
  
• Photon defaults to sending a full byte when you need to sync a boolean. With NetStack, every bit in one byte can be sent with a different boolean.
  
• NetStack’s method allows for 800% more information with the same amount of data! That’s a lotta bytes!

Interpolation Improvements

• While playing online, clients data is in a constant struggle between the server and player perception.
  
• Interpolation also smooths out lag and lost data errors on the network by projecting where a player will be in accordance to their current movement/position, and seeks to bridge the gap between what the player experiences vs. what the network reads.
  
• In the example below, our original game was using TRDS Lerp Clamped. After the update, we’ve gone with a Lerp + Lerp, which opts for a network solution that balances smoothing out the experience for the players the best. Totally Reliable Network Solutions!

Compressing Network Data

• The amount of data we were able to compress utilizing these network optimizations resulted in an average of 50% less data needed to be sent. Woot!
  
• In order to keep all the players, vehicles, and objects in order all of this data has to be continuously sent to retain a totally reliable network synchronization. The less data we have to send, the easier the network can transmit back to players their positioning/actions.

Over the past few months we’ve been working towards preparing Totally Reliable Delivery Service for our piping hot release on Steam! Huzzah!

We have a lot of exciting developments that we want to share with our community over the course of the next few weeks. So make sure to follow up each week to find out more!

Enough jibber jabber! Let’s take a look at our first Dev Update this week: Accessibility.

One of the areas that we first wanted to serve our playerbase was ease of access. Totally Reliable Delivery Service has always been intended to be a light hearted experience best shared with others. Here’s some of the changes we’ve made to keep the good times rolling!

Simple Controls
We came up with a new control scheme called “Simple Controls” that will allow you to feel a bit more focused on what’s happening on the screen rather than what’s happening in your hands.

• Perform lifting, driving, and delivering packages with half the effort.
  
• Both arms are now controlled by one button to lift, and one button to raise.
  
• Autorun feature to help reduce jammed fingers while increasing productivity!

Grabbing Assist
We’ve updated how small objects interact with grappling to assist players with timely deliveries.

• Attempting to grab near objects now pulls moveable objects into your hands.
  
• A white circle will now give players visual feedback for successfully grabbing objects.
  
• Sledding has never been easier! Much wow!

Vehicle Enter Assist
We added a few new features to make it a lot easier for players to get into vehicles effortlessly!

• Visible circle when enter assistance is available that indicates the position to jump from.
  
• Tighter physics that more accurately place the player in the correct position in the vehicle for driving.
  
• New force rotation so the player always faces the joysticks making the amount of buttons to press to start driving far fewer.
