Don't let the queer ♥♥♥♥ turn ya off. It's minuscule. The base story is pro human/anti lizard people and there's some fun, also minuscule, old school elf VS dwarf bigotry. It's a solid 5e combat sim with a decent campaign creator.

Pronoun selection is in character creation and has absolutely NO effect on game play. Said pronouns aren't even seen in the game as far as I've noticed (over 800 hours played) other than an option to use an incorrect voice. Don't let it stop you from playing a fantastic game.

The woke crap is very much in the background...if there at all. The pronouns are about as absurd as it gets.

I'm obviously the OP and you're missing out on a great game. Like I said, the pronouns turned me off (because they typically signal much larger issues), but I gave the game a chance and very glad I did.

Once I made it past character creation I can't remember a single 'woke' element to the game and I spent more than 200 hours playing it after buying every DLC.

The game was funded by a shoestring Kickstarter budget and what was accomplished with that tiny sum is truly impressive. The game has some jank, but that's to be expected without massive funding.

My concern is that I just don't want the developers of the sequel to fall into the trap of thinking that the "modern audience" exists. Because it doesn't.

on the contrary...it does, or you wouldnt see so many developers embrace it. I for one, dont play CRPG adventure type games, for an LI experience. Thats what VNs are for if thats your thing. I play DnD games, to play DnD, not Harry Met Sally.

The reality is that features such as choice of pronoun fall in the category of "the vast majority of gamers don't care, a minority find it valuable, and the cost to implement ranges from negligible to negative, so we might as well include them".

Their fate is in their own hands.
