Usually takes me a persuasion check to get Karlach to use the tadpoles. IIRC, this was true whether I was romancing her or not. But admittedly I could be remembering incorrectly.

Astarion is usually so eager for them, he even chides me over not sharing them with him initially.

Yeah, I've had Astarion threaten me over the tadpoles before, so I know he's game.

But this was the first time Karlach just told me she wanted to try them out and I don't know what I did.

Guess that's the interesting thing about replaying this game. Seeing, or finding something that you haven't before. Or coming across another outcome.
My most recent play through was the first time I ever saw Wyll dance. Don't recall ever hitting on him or anything. I only ever hit on the woman yet somehow I randomly got that scene like the 4th or 5th time around. Also ended up defeating Aunty before she escaped her Hut. Which released everyone from her spells before ever encountering them.

For you and Karlach my guess is maybe you went dark? or played a Tiefling? I think i pretty much chose Karlach as a romantic partner every playthrough and never recall her doing that either. Though I always play a good playthrough. So would only think that would happen if make a few bad choices. That or perhaps you never started getting any of the iron for her yet. Which would make her feel more hopeless. Which would make her more likely to do that.

I didn't really go dark. Defeated Auntie Ethel, freed Mayrina (Not the rest, though, I wanted that +1 Charisma), talked Kahga out of allying with the shadowdruids... We did kill the Gur that was after Astarion, but I do that every playthrough. We helped all the kids at the grove, too, so no evil deeds there either. And I'm not a Tiefling, I'm a Lolth-sworn drow.
First fix for her engine has already been installed.
I am durge, so a bard had to die, but I concealed my deed, washed the blood off my hands and convinced everyone that I knew as much as they did.
Really, I can't recall a single choice where I went for the truly evil choice.

The only thing that I can imagine influenced this is that I got her to a high approval rating prior to ever crossing the bridge at the goblin camp and talking to the dream visitor? Because all the other factors are just par for the course on a normal resisting durge playthrough, I'd say.

Karlach with tadpoles seems to be bugged somehow. I encountered the same situation but when I went to try to use tadpoles on her it said she didn't want to use them and I had no dialogue options to try to convince her.

Ah, good to know. We didn't have any to share with her yet, since my friend and I both want to use them and I'm also sharing with Astarion, so that might still happen for me.
Though she works as intended in my solo playthrough that I started around the same time with the same mods and just told me she didn't want to use them.

Will report back when I have a tadpole to share with her.
