Having the same issue even manually dropping the heart onto the pedestal has mo effect.

It's not bugged. First click on the top right book shelf (that is not opening). It';s called "smth book". It will activate the pedestal and you can put a heart

I clicked the book, it enabled use of the pedestal but when trying to put the heart in it just says "can't use this right now."

Here is how I solved it: After reading the note, take the heart and click to the top right proturuding book section on the bookshelf to activate the altar. Then click on the altar to enable the insert menu to open your inventory. But do not double click on the heart to place it (it says not now), instead click and hold the heart from inventory window and drag it in the altar menu box. If your inventory window is on top of the altar menu click and drag your inventory window on your screen to elsewhere first xD

♥♥♥♥ this game. I can’t believe they expect us to figure that I didn’t know I could drag my inventory window until I read your comment and I’m halfway thru the game
