"Air Activity Detected" even though helicopter event is off?
aaaaaa im new and the helicopter scares me so i turned it off in sandbox settings. i literally JUST spawned in and got lucky and found a radio with AEBS and some earbuds so i equipped it and started listening and right after the weather report it said "Air Activity Detected" ;-; its not even noon yet and its only day 1!!!!
is this a bug?? as far as i can tell, the event, if it was enabled, shouldnt even be happening until at least day 6. can't find anything else online about this. pls advise, idk if i should hide or not.
i have some mods installed but theyre only qol mods like common sense and weapon condition indicator, shouldnt be impacting gameplay like this.

are u sure? the wiki says its supposed to be announcing the helicopter event. everything ive ever heard about the helicopter event has basically been if you see that text on AEBS it means the helicopter is coming later and u need to either hide or get in a car. can't find anything online about it being flavor text

Kalm. No panik.

Just keep playing but stay indoors through the entire day. If it doesn't spawn, then it's just a glitch. If it does spawn, as long as you've been indoors before it spawned, it won't circle directly over wherever you are.

aaa oke thats fair thats sound advice... ty. i guess ill start converting a nearby house into an early-game safehouse and hope nothing actually happens.

I have played with the helicopter event turned off in sandbox for a while now and have never had the helicopter spawn. I have noticed on the odd occasions that i acquire a radio with the automated emergency broadcast frequency on the first day that it says air activity detected, even though the event is turned off and the helicopter doesn't spawn.
You can also get a car and fill that up with essentials a day before the helo hits and then bug out once the helicopter hits and stay on the move. Its not as scary as it sounds. If you're playing with shamblers its even easier, all you gotta do is walk around.

The only thing you're gonna lose is your base/safe-house due to the migration. A small price to pay when you can setup a new location elsewheres. Better that than dead.

right this wouldnt be as scary if it wasnt literally day 1 and i had anything to work with. but it seems like nothing ended up happening so i basically just wasted day 1 sitting inside -_-

Get the "expanded helicopter events" mod. Definitive "Living on the edge" experience.

It sounds like everyone is suggesting that a helicopter event means having to pick up and move, but is that actually what's being said? Is it actually guaranteed that the zombies will actually migrate to your base, or is it just saying in a general sense to expect migration and and react accordingly?
★Rainmaker★ 22 Nov, 2024 @ 12:18pm
The helicopter will only bring the zombies directly to where you are if you're outdoors when the choppie spawns in. In that case it will keep circling you no matter where you go, and thus bring every zombie within drawing distance to you.

If you were indoors when it spawned, it kinda goes around you but not directly on top of where you are.

I keep choppie spawns at "Sometimes" because I like the challenge, and by the time it can happen for the 2nd time onwards, I'll have plenty of ammo to deal with the crowds.

Awesome. Thanks for the clarity.

Yep, its a future reference for ya. Even if it was day 1 theres still no need to panic. Make sure your window blinds are closed and stay put in your spawn house.

If your blinds are open, what would happen then?

For me the best answer is to take a day off and hike or drive when the heli comes a calling. Even if you're not spotted by it, it will circle in the general area you are in. This in turn willmake zombies path to that location. It's all fun and games until that location causes some zombies to want to path directly through your hideout...

Also it appears a few times during that day where few might be one but it might be pretty much half the day. This means that zombies in draw distance will stop and go, and even if the area was super clear before, if you had an unfortunate heli event, they could be shuffling all day towards your base. And when the heli goes away , some zombies may keep trying to path to it through your base, knocking on your windows and drawing more nearby zombies through noise.

All in all I think it's a minor issue on pop 1 but a major boohoo on pop 8 to 16.

Some locations in the game are realy good at messing with zombie pathing during that event. Some not at all and I find it's just simply easier to take a day or two through the country side

As for op getting a heli event on day 1, it's either:
- mods
- you died on days 5 to 9 and made another character in the same game
- on game creation in settings you changed the starting day from 9 to 17 or whatever
- dog goblin is trying to manifest into your world

this nearby a starter in Riverside on x16. take a look at house.
The position of the back bedroom is useful, by putting any object infront of the door of the back bedroom zombies will opt to path through the kitchen every time. Making that back room safe as long as the curtains are drawn. I had them going to a siren just outside this house. Top left of the back room.
And we had zombies coming in from all directions. And for a long time.
So when it comes to sleep. the room is good for blocking with furniture. Helps prevent the navigators from finding you.

Another advantage of that location is there are microwaves to help get an initial fire defense going. And when you defeat that lot with a microwave. and a siren. you can get some booze from the shop for the future fires. And tools from the toolshop too. Though both entrances are outside of sirens range on optimal siren spawn.
