I think this is the best game ever made and it's not very close. I started playing around the time it went free to play and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. No other game does what this one does. I think everyone should get to experience what Destiny offers. This rating is positive because of what this game has meant to me, not because of what it has become.

Currently:

• This game is so unfairly priced that I can't genuinely recommend any of my non-Destiny friends or new players to pick it up to try it out.
  
• The community is toxic as hell.
  
• The game is dying, fewer and fewer people get on to play every single day.
  
• There are cheaters in 1/3 of Crucible games (might just be caused by the dwindling player count making the concentration of cheaters higher).
  
• Every new update is bugged (sometimes to the point of unplayability) and results in either server downtime, another update to address it (takes a month for this to get released), or Bungie just giving up and auto-completing quest steps.
  
• The new player onboarding experience is abysmal. You're given a 5 minute cutscene to explain the story (since they completely removed the real campaign), a couple of introductory quests, and then you're kicked out of the bird's nest to do whatever your heart desires with minimal direction or suggestion on where to go. So bad, in fact, that Bungie has given up and now provides players with an option to skip it entirely since they know that if a new player is playing this game, it MUST be at the direction of another existing player telling them what to do anyway.
  
• The game is riddled with power creep. Guardian kits are the strongest they have ever been and new aspirational content has gotten easier and easier.

Realistically, the game needs a reset like Destiny 1 got with the release of Destiny 2, but Bungie's insistence on this being a forever game post-Final Shape has led to Destiny 3 being nothing but a pipe dream while this game wanes in its final days after the equivalent of an Avenger: Endgame story beat. Bungie just doesn't know when to let it go.

Some of my best memories are playing this game, but I just can't in good conscience say that you should start playing this game if you haven't already. You just had to be there, I guess.

Destiny is a franchise that has teetered on the edge of greatness for ten years only to throw itself backwards at every opportunity. In that time, Bungie itself has changed, no longer the same company or people that brought us Halo, the Bungie of today is a far cry from such high points, and it shows the most in how Destiny 2 has evolved in the aftermath of The Final Shape, with mediocre (often reused or re-skinned) content on top of lazy story-telling, an overemphasise on the cash shop and the lack of respect for the community or its feedback with regards to beloved core gameplay features being stripped away or repurposed in a way that forces players to engage in repetitive content for unreasonable amounts of time.

Put simply, what Destiny 2 has become is a far cry from the original vision put forward for the franchise over a decade ago. Promises have been made, broken and ignored over and again with high points such as the Taken King, Forsaken and Witch Queen expansions being very quickly followed by bouts of inferior content drops or gameplay changes which have only proven to drive more and more players away.

I type this review following my own ten year journey through the Destiny universe which started in September 2014, throughout which I have shared in many highs and lows, made and lost friends through teaming up for raids, PVP and other activities. Now, it's time to move on.

Would I recommend Destiny 2 in its current state? Absolutely not and honestly, I don't see it getting any better as Bungie continue down their current path. It's been a fun ride, but this is one Guardian whose Ghost has revived them for the last time. Thanks for the memories. Guardian down.

Stay far far away from this game, i lost about 5 years of my life and hundreds of dollars to this damn game. got worse every year, with the only good parts being when the game was at serious risk of death in order to retain players (more money). Like my friend said: The game I fell in love with is in there somewhere.

I've played a tiny amount and I am completely lost. I should not need an IGN guide just to play this game. It is abysmal. If you are a new player, no coop, you cannot play this game. There is no way to play and complete this game as it stands. Do not buy it.

I've played this game for a very long time. I first preordered it on PS4 and had countless hours on there before transferring over to PC. I was here for the chaos of the Red War, the flop of Curse of Osiris, the world-shaking joy of Forsaken, and other milestones in the game's history, and it has been heartbreaking to see the steady decline over the years as the game that I grew up with got steadily worse and worse. Half the game getting removed. Sunsetting. All the rampant, predatory monetization. The layoffs, Pete's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ car collection. Lightfall.

I tried to hang on for as long as I could, to see The Final Shape and the end of the main story. For the longest time I still loved the game and enjoyed playing it, but the last Dawning event was kind of the straw that broke the camel's back. The same event copy/pasted for yet another year and somehow they *still* got it wrong and delivered a half-baked buggy mess. Removing the ability to craft seasonal weapons and implementing that god-awful tonic system was just the nail in the coffin.

I've lost too much time and money to this game, and have little to show for it. It's still fun to meet up with friends for a raid or dungeon now and then, but outside of that I feel zero incentive to keep playing the game.

Y'all had something great, and you ruined it because you threw aside the community in favor of investors and listening to the two or three streamers that complained the loudest.

Unless Frontiers is something that completely blows all expectations out of the water, then I'm moving on to games that actually respect my time.
