Medium rockets with manual landing issues

I've seen other posts saying the manual landing upgrade on the medium rocket makes it take a large pad or larger. Is there a way to build medium rockets without the upgrade? The reason being only being able to use large pads is really slowing down how much money I can make until I can save up for multiple large pads.

sadly there's no way (yet), but I will see what I can do on my side to improve it

Nope, it would require a lot of code rewrite, and since it's not a game-breaking thing, I just kept it. It's by game design that medium rockets turn into bigger rockets once manual landing is unlocked, which makes them launchable only from the advanced launch pads
