The Suicide of Rachel Foster

The Suicide of Rachel Foster

Statistiche:
Wrong dates in Newspaper or am i missing something?
I am trying to figure out what happed. Spoiler:

From my understanding, Claire figured out the affair of Leonard when she was getting the decoration for the Christmasparty from the storage room. Through the vents she could hear what was going on in the Attic.

Then some days later there was the Hockey game and Claire killed Rachel with the Hockey Stick before driving Nicole to the game. While Nicole plays the long Hockey game, Claire got rid of Rachel at the cliff. Then both get home and Claire is confronting Leonard with the affair and making it public to make it look like a suicide.

Leonard and Irving both get Crazy over this and want to find out the truth what happend with Ratchel. Thats why Irving was setting up everything in the Hotel and maybe there is the Ghost of Rachel still in the Hotel, i am not sure about this.

But one thing i absolutly dont understand is in the Newspaper (29.12.1981) hanging in Leonards Room. It says Rachels body was found 28.12.1981. But later when finding the medal, Nicole is saying the date Rachel killed herself was 27.12.1983 at the Hockeygame. On the Hockeystick there is also the Date 23.12.1983 (Date of Christmasparty) engraved.

Nicole is getting to the Hotel 23.12.1993 which is 10 years after the incident, than the dates in all the Newspaper have to be wrong. There it says Rachel lived 1965-1981)

Is this an error in the plot or did i miss something?

I have also noticed it and I don't think you or I missed on anything. It's a big mistake in the story development.

not just my imagination either then. Nice find.
something else i noticed, she arrives at the hotel December 23 but on day 7 Irving says it's Christmas Eve. Time isn't moving the right way in the hotel. It's obvious they are trying to connect it to Stephen King's The Shining, where the hotel is a metaphor for Jack himself, his body, and losing his sanity. I think the same thing is happening here. The mold is also on the upper floors, i think a metaphor for the "brain" being the part that is diseased.

Nicole is having a mental breakdown returning to the place where she was abused and as the repressed memories try to return.

There is no Rachel Foster. Nicole was the victim. Her father groomed and raped her as a child. Her mother found out and immediately took Nicole away from him. The "death" was the child Nicole became pregnant with due to her father's abuse. Her mother forced her to have an abortion and consequently lost her faith in god. In college, Nicole marched AGAINST abortion, probably due to the trauma of being forced against her will to get one. She felt like a murderer for having the abortion, her religious mother probably raised her to believe it was murder.

she needed to create a new narrative in order to survive with the guilt, so Rachel Foster is created. the name "Foster" brings to mind "foster parents", or perhaps a delusion that Nicole has "fostered"

Irving may be a representation of the unborn child she never had? He talks about Rachel reading him stories but maybe that was Nicole reading stories to her unborn child in the womb. The hidden bedroom is a child's room, not the room of a 16yr old girl. It's probably a metaphor for the unborn child's life that never happened & the things Nicole wanted to give the child but couldn't and then she repressed it after the abortion.
