In my experience it works a bit better. Elevators won't drop off random people at least and the box for guns is better.

We just finished almost everything that is available so far, just looking for hidden chests, so I could say that it is already playable and very fun ;)

Is the Christmas event the thing with the 8 teleporters and sweaters hidden around the area? Because I did all that but never realized if it was the event or not.

Yes, that's the X-Mas special. The rewards are a new OP weapon and some amazing outfits. Sweaters are a cute bonus, but the ultimate prize is an outfit that's more of a transformation which completely swaps out Carol's character model.

A while ago I had seen a preview picture of the outfit on a certain image board and actually thought it was a teaser for an impressive new enemy!

Ah okey cool. I stumbled upon it and did everything. My partner gifted me the game for Christmas and I just downloaded and started playing on the 1st of jan.
The new outfit is the one with the bunny ear helmet right? Trying to not spoil it for those who haven't done it yet. I dunno how to spoiler tag on steam.

That outfit you mentioned is a darkish recoloured version of an already existing superhero-styled costume. The original is pink. Reminds me a bit of Viewtiful Joe with that pink scarf.

However this costume is but the penultimate reward. The last reward is quite different... you'll immediately see the difference when switching to that outfit. It's not Carol in a suit anymore but an entirely different character! The look is related to something you find in the event's Christmas arena.

Now I have checked: if you revisit the Festive Cottage area, all the reward gift boxes respawn around the Christmas tree in the cottage's side room. Those that held outfits are empty; the two boxes that held weapons drop another instance of their weapon. The presents form a perfect circle of eight boxes. That last outfit is from beating the boss.
