I honestly wouldn't be surprise to find touches of cosmic horror too based on the title. The idea of cosmic entities that were contacted and brought upon said apocalyptic event ? Maybe in relations to the "sleep experiment" and the ability to reach/see the inside of the whirlpool ?

i hope to god they're still making this
