Got this and 6 other cool looking Warhammer games from the Humble Bundle for $15-$20!! I love Diablo so trying this game was my 1st stop. It was actually because I was looking for a Warhammer ARPG and found this one and decided to try and find a discount since it was more than I was hoping to pay on Steam. Needless to say I SCORED!!

All of these games come out to about $280 seperately.... (mind blown) :) As far as the game goes, I actually have been having a lot of fun so far. About halfway through the campaign and I can tell that it is definitely my kind of game. It has a little more jank and different mechanics than Diablo, of course, but once I got a couple hours in things started clicking and now I just want to see what the game has to offer in full.

Solid 8/10 for me. A game I will be playing for a little while for sure, and definitely coming back to. That being said, I cant wait to try a couple of the cool Warhammer strategy games I got with the bundle as well :)

Ever since Diablo 2 I have wanted a Diablo-style isometric ARPG lootfest game, and there has never, in all this time, been one. Or at least, not one worth playing. (We don't talk about Harbinger, OK.)

But the other day I decided I wanted some of that dopamine IV drip so I started playing a little Grim Dawn again, and that inspired me to go looking for the mythical Sci-fi setting Diablo game again.

Turns out, there really still isn't anything that truly fits the bill, but there is one game that comes awfully close. Warhammer 40k Inquisitor: Prophecy.

Let me get this out of the way first: Warhammer is not properly Sci-fi. It's elves and swords, but in space. There's still magic and gods, and etc etc. So I feel justified in saying that nothing that "truly fits the bill" exists.

Although Prophecy is like $25 on Steam, if you buy Prophecy and all the expansions in a bundle, it's only $17, so that's weird but OK, I bought it. And it's a competent Diablo-style game with guns (and swords and gods and magic) in space. The loot is great, there's plenty of different slots to fill and items have lots of variety in effect and modifiers. On paper it's got it all. There's several plotlines, there's lots of side-quests, there's minibosses and big bosses like you'd expect. It's not open-world, instead it's like Diablo 1 (and 2? Hard to remember so long ago...) where you have a hub and go to places from there, but that seems suitable for it especially since you get to go to several star systems and planets as you like.

It inverts the formula a little in that all your button-mashing skills are on items, and your skill tree is all bonuses like better crits or more health. But there's still a lot of variety so I don't think this takes anything away from the usual.

Here's the thing... it just doesn't manage to grab me the same way. As much as I'm sick of the setting in Grim Dawn, I still kind of would rather play it and I'm not even sure why. I think it's because the random generation in Prophecy is tile-based and so the areas are all very obviously grids that are sort of samey (even though there are a variety of environments). But I'm not sure if that's even it. I can't really put my finger on it.

I guess I'll keep playing until something clicks, either a reason to love it or the reason I don't.

I'm giving it a thumbs up since Steam doesn't let you do nuance, and because it's not a bad game by any means, and because you can play it offline which is fantastic and all too rare. And I think you can absolutely get $17 worth of enjoyment out of it -- probably a lot more than that.
