Second Extinction™

Second Extinction™

Stop killing games
Since this is very relevant to what is soon going to happen to this game for no good reason (becoming completely unplayable even in a offline solo mode for people who BOUGHT the game) i'm here to signal boost the movement for stopkillinggames dot com
The movement is using the recent destruction of The Crew to push governments to make the practice of making games you paid for completely unplayable illegal and for devs to ensure players can play the games they PAID for even after they give up on them.

This is NOT a demand for publishers to keep their servers online, rather to ensure that publishers make sure their games can continue to work without their involvement after they've decided to abandon them (as is the case with Second Extinction). This game can be played solo, there's no reason for it to rely on company servers, heck multiplayer games CAN and HAVE had things like self hosting for decades, there's no reason for games like this to become completely unplayable.

If you bought The Crew, feel free to participate directly with the movement, it's as simple as following the steps on the website. If not, you can do what i'm doing and spread the word because this practice is unacceptable for a multitude of reasons, especially if you believe in the right to own things you bought with your own money.

I had this game in mind as well when I heard about this.

If Systemic Reaction was really an independent indie studio going under, I could understand a little more. The Avalanche Studios Group purposely divides their resources into "small teams" and uses that as a playing card for player sympathy when games go bad (they fail, they have too many bugs, or features take too long). The fact that Avalanche Studios opened up another office and hired several proficient AAA developers a week or two after announcing the shutdown - supposedly due to lack of resources - was a huge slap in the face. Basically, it's a shame that this can happen... but it's unethical when it's done purposely and can be avoided.
