This game could be so much better then it actually is. I am not sure how they manage to keep the price sky high because it is ultimately not that great. Some of it is kinda great, but then it just pilllars out down into arcade slush.

If you can get it for less then 7$USD it is worth it.

Earth Defense Force 5 doesn’t care about realism. It doesn’t care about subtlety, polish, or serious storytelling. What it does care about is giving you a rocket launcher, dropping 200 alien ants in your lap, and letting the explosions do the talking.

This game is pure, unfiltered B-movie chaos — and it absolutely knows it. It’s campy, clunky, overwhelming, and oddly cathartic. And for the right player, it's one of the most fun co-op shooters out there.

The premise is simple: giant insects, robots, UFOs, and kaiju are invading Earth, and you — a humble soldier — are Earth's last line of defense. Armed with wildly over-the-top weapons, you’ll shoot, explode, and blast your way through wave after wave of bug hordes across 100+ missions.

There are four playable classes, each with unique playstyles:

-Ranger: The everyman soldier with guns, grenades, and mobility.

-Wing Diver: Jetpack-flying women with laser weapons and low health.

-Air Raider: Support role, calling in vehicles, airstrikes, and traps.

-Fencer: A heavy tank class with melee weapons and shielded armor.

Every class feels completely different, and mastering them in co-op takes actual strategy — or at least enough luck and firepower to nuke the screen into submission.

EDF 5 boasts over 1,000 weapons, and they’re as absurd as they are deadly. You’ll find:

-Shotguns that launch enemies like ragdolls

-Laser cannons that sweep city blocks

-Air strikes that take 20 seconds to land but can level buildings

-Vehicles from mechs to helicopters to literal tanks

The destructible environments, massive enemy counts, and absurd physics create glorious chaos. It's not "clean" gameplay — it's a glorious mess, and that’s part of its charm.

Let’s be clear: the story is utter nonsense. There’s no subtlety — only overacted radio chatter, cheesy one-liners, and military melodrama that sounds like it was translated with a passion for camp.

And yet? It works. The dialogue is so laughably serious that it circles back around to being entertaining. Combine that with the sheer absurdity of the alien designs, and EDF 5 becomes the video game equivalent of a midnight cult classic movie.

Earth Defense Force 5 is the kind of game that doesn’t pretend to be anything it’s not. It’s a budget title packed with heart, scale, and hilariously absurd action. It’s janky, yes. Repetitive? Sure. But if you're looking for something that embraces its madness and gives you dozens of hours of co-op bug-blasting bliss, EDF 5 delivers like few others can.
