5 Helpful Tips For Planetside 2
By Rayvenstorm
Here's some things most beginners don't know and sometimes intermediate to experienced players may forget. I'm not "professional or an "expert" with the game just been playing for 3 years and in that time felt these are the most commonly missed things.

Things to know in Planetside 2
SPOTTING
Pressing "Q" while aimed at any enemy will "spot" it. This lets you and your allies in the vicinity see them on the mini map because they will be highlighted, also in your field of view. There has been many a time that I would have ran the other way if an ally had spotted the foe that just shot me. It Also helps your aviators find their targets easier. It will take some practice using it alot but luckily its not that tough to get into the habit.

SUPPORT CLASSES
When playing a support class such as Medic or Engineer you should, 95% of time, be doing just that... supporting. Engineers drop that ammo pack! They are unlimited and keep the fight going. Always keep your eye on the mini map to look for the 3 different flashing symbols that tell you where your needed.
*side note Medics CAN ressurect Maxes.

*a + symbol for someone in need of healing.
*a skull symbol for someone in need of reviving.
*a wrench symbol for a Max, vehicle, terminal or turret that needs repairs.
*an ammo pack symbol for allies in need of ammo.

UNMANNED GUNS/TURRETS
When you see a vehicle that has unoccupied seats with guns get in them.
If they boot you out so be it, but most need a second (or more) gunner. This one is not as uncommon as you would think. Also, an empty turret is always begging for a gunner when a base is under attack.

SPAWN ROOM HIDING
Simply put, the more players that stay in a spawn room not helping the easier it is for the enemy to capture the base. It is just a game and no one will get hurt... just go. Try switching your class for a better advantage if the one your on isn't working out so well. If it is a heavy Zerg (meaning they are surrounding the spawn room not letting anyone out) then not much can be done without teamwork.

TAKING CARE OF THE ARMOR
When you see a lot of aircraft or vehicles it is very, very helpful to switch to a class that can help with the problem. Also, if possible, pull one your yourself to add to your teams defensive firepower. Please remember that the Mosquito, Reaver, Scythe, Valkyrie, Harasser, and Flash WILL take damage from small arms weapons. You see one in your sights SHOOT! Any aircraft or vehicle bigger WILL NOT (with an exception to the Archer) so don't waste your ammo.

I feel if players learn and keep these things in mind the game will be better; more enjoyable for them and others. Thanks for reading and hopefully this helps.

For the Turrets -- if it is smoking, greyed-out, and won't let you in. An Engi can repair it with his engineering tool. Once fixed enough, it will show its chrome and colors again, now hop in and use. ENGINEER repairs Turrets.

For Vehicle Stations -- sometimes in a friendly base you will go WHOA the color is enemy colored Vehicle Station. Look alive, an enemy Stealther hacked it to its team side. First, look for stealthers nearby. Second, if buddies around or brave, grab an Infiltrator Class from nearby Gun Station, then uncloak and hack the Vehicle Station for about 10 seconds, now it converts to your friendly colors and you can use to spawn a friendly vehicle. INFILTRATOR to hack back.

Sorry about the wordy posts Rayvenstorm. Consider it just enthusiasm for your good guide and Planetside 2 -- the most entertaining and frustrating game around LOL.

I couldn't figure out a good way to condense it down. Everything in PS2 is so hard to say concisely because there tend to be exceptions. Your guide does an excellent job of explaining things concisely. Much appreciated. I probably got into too much detail, but kept thinking about how sometimes it leads to accidental deaths either way, with the knowledge or not. Ah well.

Likewise outside if in your friendly base, you can fire tank rounds thru most friendly base shields. Meanwhile usually the enemy cannot fire thru those shields back at you.

Successfully fired Rocklet Rifle, Sniper Rifle, most primary weapons, the Hvy Assault Rocket Launcher, most MAX weaponry (not sure about Pounder) thru room shields. Supposedly it is the transparency your side of the shield that says what can get thru. These base or building shields can be more transparent on the view of one side than other. Point is, noobs surrounding you or inside the base often do not know this, either making them ez kill as they surround, or not firing back. Be careful with explosives, shield may block triggering such. Mostly, however, it matters how close you are to the shield, which is odd. Stepping a yard more back and it may go thru, likewise if muzzle of gun is thru, will fire. Thus hard to know pattern. Roof of spawn room often camped, this can help if the surrounding faction gets kill crazy to soften up an area and then attempt an escape. Spawn room changes side, you die. Lift to Roof yellow shield may be only way out.

Rayvenstorm, had an idea for a good tip to add. If you get surrounded in a friendly spawn room, a lot of new players do not know that some weapons can fire through one's own friendly shields while the enemy cannot. Also you can fire through the roof shields often which are yellow often. These shields protect from enemy fire by absorbing it. However, sometimes your own shields will stop certain weapons and explode them inside hurting your own team. There is a rule to it, but I'm not to clear on it. Explosives sometimes get thru sometimes not. But if muzzle of gun is thru usually you can fire it anyway, also grenades may or may not. Maybe you can find out more on actual rule.

Rayvenstorm is correct that the spotting only works so long, probably in the 5-10 second category will a spotted unit remain highlighted. Lots of great info on this at the iridar.net site (that is IRIDAR, looks like an n in small but isn't it is an r).

From reading a ton from many sites and playing hundreds of hours since in PS2, some notes. Spotting is a bit limited to a spam queue of 6 misses and only so many per so many seconds, but basically it is unlimited overall, just spam limited. Engis can resupply with ammo packs unlimited overall BUT only so close and so many per so many seconds. Higher Engi Ammo pack level lasts longer. Each ammo pack provides about 1 clip of ammo and being near one is checked about every 10 seconds or so. But total number is unlimited, just only lasts so long per level, and accessible only every so many time ticks.
