Required Mods
These mods/programs are esstential for a playthrough with mods. Many will not work without these:
- Skyrim Script Extender [skse.silverlock.org]
This one is pretty self explanitory, extends the ammount of script. Allows a lot of mods to be used with Skyrim.
- SkyUI [www.nexusmods.com]
This one should be a no-brainer, if you have ever even considered modding Skyrim, you've probably come across this. It also comes with MCM (Mod Configuration Menu), which many mods rely on.
- Load Order Optimization Tool[loot.github.io] Sorts plugin and shows possible errors you may have.
- Nexus Mod Manager[www.nexusmods.com] is an easy and friendly program to use. It does everything it says. It organizes the mods you download from the Nexus mod website into one, centeralized location. Easy to enable and disable, sort plugins, and manage your mods.
Chapter 1 (NPC)

The NPCs of Skyrim seem clunky and outdated. Fix that.
- Guard Dialogue Overhaul[www.nexusmods.com]
This enhances the bland guards found in Skyrim. Guards will now properly reconize you for your actions and accomplishments. You will earn a reputation among the guards. Early in the game they will mock you, but as you progress in the game. They will address you with respect. This also gives the player more options when guards approch you about weapons drawn, shouting, casting spells, etc... It also removes dialog loops, when guards tend to say the same thing over and over.

"I don't even know what it does, I just know I always have it." -BlackGold on the topic of Guard DIalogue Overhaul, 2016

- Immersive Citizens [www.nexusmods.com]
This mod changes reactions of NPCs to their enviroment. They will flee if the opponent if more powerful than them. While fight if they are weaker. The mod adds multiple stages of NPC awarness, from combat to passive.

- Inconsequential NPCs.[www.nexusmods.com]
Ever wonder why the population of bustling city centers in Skyrim are so low? Or why citizens take the time out of their daily lives to chat with the Dragonborn they have never met? This mod fixes both of these. NPCs will no longer but aside their own time and inform you about the weather as you walk by.

- Run For Your Lives[www.nexusmods.com]
Citizens will no longer stand and watch as a dragon overruns their city, killing innocent people. They will flee into the shelter of their homes. Although guards and followers will not flee. They will hold their ground and fend off the dragon.

- When Vampires Attack[www.nexusmods.com]
Almost identical to run for your lives, made by the same author. But citizens will run indoors during a vampire attack. Note: When Vampires Attack can cause bugs and glitches that can mess up your save game. If you're afraid of this happening, use Immesive Citizens instead.

- Amazing Follower Tweaks[www.nexusmods.com]
This makes improvements to the pretty bad vanilla follower AI. It adds features like avoiding traps, auto relaxing, etc.
*note that AFT is not compatible with UFO.

- Ultimate Follwer Overhaul[www.nexusmods.com]
Allows you to have more control of followers. Adds new commands and interactions for followers.
*note that UFO is not compatible with AFT.

- Bring Out Your Dead[www.nexusmods.com]
Major Cities in Skyrim have a Hall of the Dead while cities like Falkreath and Morthal have graveyards. These have been slighty expanded to house unique NPCs once they die. Smaller villages now have land set aside for graveyards.

- Better Stealth AI [www.nexusmods.com]
This improves the horrible vanilla stealth followers AI. They will no longer hold torches or charge ahead into combat. They will also speak less while sneaking.

- Organized Bandits In Skyrim[www.nexusmods.com]
Introduces 2500 unique new bandits. there are now many different types of bandits you can encounter. Each bandit has a strength, but also has a weakness the player can use their advantage too, and gain the upper hand.

- Warzones: Civil Unrest [www.nexusmods.com]
Every citizen in Skyrim described this dreadful, bloody conflict taking place in their homeland. Yet the Civil War didn't seem at all significant. It didn't really seem to impact anyone at all. This mod add fuel to the civil war, you may see small stormcloak ambushes set on a mountain path, or full out battles on the plains of Whiterun.

- Immersive Patrols[www.nexusmods.com]
Adds countless scheduled patrols to the world of Skyrim from Stormcloack to Thalmor and Dawnguard. Enemy factions will engage eactother is skirmishes and small scale battles.

Chapter 2 (Combat)
Combat

Fixing the forever clunky and choppy combat mechanics of the Vanilla game.
The following mods are compatible however we will be posting the mod author's compatibility notes alongside them:
- Duel-Combat Realism[www.nexusmods.com]
Adding an abundance of slight changes to blocking, damage values, and stamina values. Choosing a well timed strike and blocks are crucial now more than ever.
- Combat Evolved[www.nexusmods.com]
This mod is designed to complement Duel-Combat Realism. It makes the world more dangerous and unforgiving. it enhances Stagger, knockdown, damage and more. Enemies will drop their guard less and think stratigically.
-Ultimate Combat[www.nexusmods.com]
This mod is designed to make a totally new combat experience. It is focused on precise and responsive combat. It is adds numerous game settings, enemy action adds special attacks, special spell, dodge, counter, block and bash. These depend on behavior of the player and situation. it also adds some new attack animations for special attacks. Your tactics and strategy affect the results of combat more.

"Duel-Combat Realism is compatible with this mod. But I don't recommend mixed, because it is unbalance maybe."
-Wildcat[www.nexusmods.com]
Wildcat makes combat AI more responsive, introduces combat injuries and increases lethality. The aim is to make combat more dangerous and varied and less like a water balloon fight. It accomplishes this with minimal scripting and no save bloat.

"Combat Evolved: Wildcat and Combat Evolved both modify combat styles and game settings and will overlap. If you prefer the combat styles and game settings (including difficulty levels) in Combat Evolved, load it after Wildcat, otherwise load it before Wildcat. Note that Combat Evolved includes a large buff to blocking that allows players to easily reach the block cap regardless of shield type or perks. If this is not a feature you want, load Wildcat after Combat Evolved. The NPC spell changes and sneak difficulty changes in Combat Evolved and the stagger and injury mechanics in Wildcat will take effect regardless of load order."

"Duel - Combat Realism: There is little added value in using both because their feature set overlaps for the most part. Also, Duel has a history of lying about its features and was on the Dangerous Mods Masterlist for a while due to save bloat, so it is nowhere on my list of priorities."

"Ultimate Combat: Compatible. Ultimate Combat makes a small number of combat styles and game settings changes and should be loaded before Wildcat so it does not override the more detailed changes in Wildcat. Both mods add timed block and stagger mechanics, so you may want to disable one of them in its MCM to reduce redundancy."

End

- Dragon Combat Overhaul[www.nexusmods.com]
Revamps the vanilla dragon combat. Dragons tactics, and Ai has improved, increasing their situational awareness. Dragons will now be more unpredictable and dangerous.

- Dual Wield Parrying[www.nexusmods.com]
Allows you to block while dual wielding weapons. Pretty self explanitory.

- Locational Damage[www.nexusmods.com]
Warning: Locational damage can cause save bloats. Please install at your own risk.
A great mod that adds 14 different damage zones of the body, This factors into movement, health. It accounts armour, your strength, weapons, skills, etc... Striking zones like the head will do more damage, and blur vision, while striking at their legs could knock them over. These also apply to you. The opponet's AI will calculate the best body part to hit.

- Revenge of the Enemies[www.nexusmods.com]
Enemies will use everything at their disposal to defeat you. They will cooperate and attack you simultaneously

- Archery Gameplay Overhaul[www.nexusmods.com]
This mod adds a difference to third person archery, by moving the camera slightly over the shoulder, third person archery has become viable. It also adds subtle changes like arm fatigue after holding an awrow for too long. It also adds enchanted arrows, which can be enabled via a set of rings.(My Precious)
Archery Gameplay Overhaul

- Nock to Tip[www.nexusmods.com]
No longer will the archery skill be under the smithing skill! This mod adds plenty of customization, like changing the weight of your draw string. Arrows will spin during flight, penetrate deeper ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°), arrows will be longer, and almost every arrow in the game has been retextured.

- Battle fatigue and injuries.[www.nexusmods.com]
You will finally be punished for losing health. If you lose 25% of your health in a given amount of time, you will recive injuries to certain body parts.

- ASIS [www.nexusmods.com]
NPCs will finally be on par with the player. NPCs can now use potions, spell mods, and perk mods.
Chapter 3 (Animations)

-VioLens [www.nexusmods.com]
You can now customize killmoves for each weapon. Making a highly versitile, and adjustible mod. This mod includes killmoves that were not present in the vanilla game. You can change both ranged and melee killmoves, if it follows the projectile, and countless others specified in the Brodual video below:
- Dance of Death[www.nexusmods.com]
We HIGHLY recommend using VioLens over DoD. If you choose to install DoD, do it at your own discretion.
A highly configurable kill move mod. You can customize the killmove, and decapitation chances. As well as choosing the perspective the killmove is seen from. This mod adds a bunch of new killmoves, which can be unlocked through perk. Making you feel rewarded for your character's advancement. Dance of Death is no longer supported
Fores New Idles in Skyrim[www.nexusmods.com]
Offering other mod creators to add different types of animations to the game. Many animation mods will require this mod. Although it can be tricky to install. Here is a link to Gopher's video on installation:
- TK Dodge[www.nexusmods.com]
Adds dodge animations, which can be triggered by reconfigurable keys. Dodging can be done in 1st and 3rd person, armed with a staff, sword, spells etc...
- Immersive Animations[www.nexusmods.com]
This mod takes a different approch, it sticks to the vanilla ties but makes them more fluid and easier to watch.
- Immersive First Person View[www.nexusmods.com]
Adds your body to first person so you are no longer a flying head with a couple hands and a sword.
- Skyrim-Enhanced Camera[www.nexusmods.com]
Almost identicalto Immersive First Person View, but is more popular. Mainly because it features first person horse riding, and doesn't include the intrusive helmet feature.
- Equipping Overhaul[www.nexusmods.com]
It overhauls Skyrim's vanilla system of equipping, dropping, and swapping items. It also can be customized through the MCM (included in SkyUI).
- SkyFalls and SkyMills[www.nexusmods.com]
Finally, look at a picturesque photo. But, a horrid static waterfall or windmill stands in the distance. This mod aims to fix that. Waterfalls and windmills will move from the distance.
- Pumping Iron [www.nexusmods.com]
Made by Gopher, this mod makes your character's physical appearance through the game look more heavier built. So, if you start out as a skinny little mage. But as you work with swords, craft, forge items, your muscle density would increase. This mod implements that into Skyrim.

Chapter 4 (Weapons & Armour)

  • Armour
- Immersive Armors [www.nexusmods.com]
This enhances your game immensly greatly. 55 new sets of Armour, 396 new shields, all craftable, enchantable, and are smoothly integrated into Skyrim. They could be quest rewards, or random loot in chests.
Immersive Armors
- Improved Closefaced Helmets[www.nexusmods.com]
You can now see character's eye's through helmets. You will finally not stare into a dark abyss.
- Cloaks of Skyrim[www.nexusmods.com]
Adding almost 100 cloaks to the world of Skyrim, and can be used in conjunction with other mods, such as Frostfall[www.nexusmods.com]. Ther is plenty of variety to suit every character.
  • Weapons
- Hearvy Armory - New Weapons[www.nexusmods.com]
Adding a variety of new weapons. Such as halberds, hachets, spears, etc...
- Immersive Weapons[www.nexusmods.com]
The counterpart to Immersive Armours, Immersive Weapons does the same as Immersive Armours but, with weapons of course. It too integrates seemlessly. The new weapons can be crafted, bought, or looted.
- Unique Uniques[www.nexusmods.com]
You know the "unique" weapons in skyrim are just the same bland model as every other glass, or ebony weapon? This changes that. Unique weapons will finally be truely unique. Now they come with their own models.
- Faction Crossbows [www.nexusmods.com]
Ever notice the Dawnguard are the only faction that uses a crossbow? This adds crossbows and bolts unique to factions. From Imperials to the Dark Brotherhood. Stormcloaks to the Thieves Guild.
Chapter 5 (Survival & Needs)

This is the meat and potatoes of immersion. Notice how you can go for your entire playthrough without eating, drinking, or sleeping? And how is Skyrim supposed to be a harsh climate? You can walk around in Dawnstar with next to no clothing, in the middle of Morning Star.
- Wet and Cold[www.nexusmods.com]
This mod affects quite a bit. If it starts reaining, people will run to their house for shelter, equip rainhoods etc.. If they are walking in the northern part of skyrim, they will equip fur hoods, coats, etc... You can also see your breath in the cold, this affects NPCs and animals as well. It also adds a variety of subtle, but effective features. For example, when you emerge from a body of water, it will drip from your armour. This is the same for snow. Which will accumulate on characters (armour and body). It is also recommended that you download Wet and Cold - Ashes[www.nexusmods.com]
- Campfire - Complete Camping System[www.nexusmods.com]
You can now build campfires, use included backpacks, harvest resources, such as wood. Which can be used as arrows hatchets, etc... Create camping equipment, tanning racks, tents, enchanting kits, and more.
- Frostfall[www.nexusmods.com]
Frostfall will track your location, time of day, weather, and clothing. It incorperates hypothermia, camping, and cold water survival. It is compatible with a lot of mods. For more, look at this Brodual video:
- Hunterborn [www.nexusmods.com]
Changing the kill and loot system for animals. It lets you scavenge differently. You have more options for harvesting valuables and food. You can field dress it, skin it, harvest alchemy ingredients, or even butcher the body. It also includes new meats, for specific animals. It modifies the weight. More meat for larger animals.
- iNeed[www.nexusmods.com]
Your character now needs needs to survive. Hunger, thirst, and sleep. it includes waterskins to have water on the go. You can fill your water skin in wells, at the bottom of waterfalls, and even in pots after rain. It gives subtle noises based on your needs. It also includes widgets and text notifications.
- Realistic Needs and Diseases[www.nexusmods.com]
A very intuitive way of approching your characters needs. With thirsk, sleep, hunger, and even alcohol consumption. It also revamps the disease system. You are more likely to get a disease if you say, drink from a stream. They get worse over time. Increasing in debuffs and penalties.
- Drinking fountains of Skyrim[www.nexusmods.com]
You can take water from several water fountains spread across the land. You will recive water bottles when you activate them.
- Camping Kit of the Northen Ranger[www.nexusmods.com]

- Climates of Tamriel[www.nexusmods.com]

Chapter 6 (Audio)

- Sounds of Skyrim - The Wilds[www.nexusmods.com]
- Sounds of Skyrim - The Dungeons[www.nexusmods.com]
- Sounds of Skyrim - Civilizations[www.nexusmods.com]
Sounds of Skyrim is an audio project. Adding 460+ sound effects in the three parts. It includes hammering, laughing, barking, children playing, etc... It's not the best to desscribe sounds. So here is a sample videos.

- Audio Overhaul for Skyrim 2[www.nexusmods.com]
Redesigning Skyrim's from the ground up with the goal being realism. It does not rely on third party content. It overhauls Skyrim's current audio. Ambient noises to foot steps. Sound will be altered for distances.
- Ultra Realistic Bow Shoot Sounds[www.nexusmods.com]
tweaks bow sounds so that it sounds more realistic.
- Smooth Blade Draw and Sheathe[www.nexusmods.com]
Changes the unsheathe and sheathe sounds, it isn't as loud as the vanilla game, making it perfect for a sneak playthrough. It also get's rid of screams during a sneak attack.
- Immersive Sounds Compendium[www.nexusmods.com]
Combining all of the popular 'Immersive Sounds' mods. It aims to greatly expand the current scope of the game. Thousands of individual sounds have been added to the game. Type of armors will affect your movement sounds, enemies will also make different sounds when they collapse.
- Clanking Armor[www.nexusmods.com]
Armor clanks now...
- Improved Combat Sounds[www.nexusmods.com]
Combat sounds are modified so they sound heavier and harder hitting.
- Thundering Shouts[www.nexusmods.com]
The pitch is lowered on all shouts by 10%, making them sound more menacing, like a dragon shout should be. It adds echo to higher level shouts as well.
- ThuuMic [www.nexusmods.com]
Note: Thuumic requires script dragon, which has problems with SKSE.
The usage of this mod comes down to personal preference, but if you live alone and not in an apartment building where you could distrub your neighbors, this could be a really fun and immersive mod.
-Immersive Music[www.nexusmods.com]
Let's face it, Skyrim's soundtrack, although good, gets quite repetitive after a while with only about 3.5 hours of music. This mod fixes that by adding an additional 18.5 hours for everything which is designed to be completely standalone and go ontop of the original soundtrack, even including songs from The Witcher games.
Chapter 7 (User Interfaces)

SkyUi has already been featured. It will not appear in this section.
- A Quality World Map [www.nexusmods.com]
using improved textures, and including accurate roads. so you can track a path more easily.
- Immersive Hud -iHud[www.nexusmods.com]
it hides the permanantly visible compass and crosshairs, and hides them when not needed. You can also toggle it.
- A Matter of Time[www.nexusmods.com]
Adding a subtle, but effective clock widget. Telling you the time, and is very configurable through the MCM.

Without mods, Skyrim is bland and forgettable. Thanks for linking to these absolute essentials!

Lol: ''One of the best games of our time...''

Doesn't say much for our time, does it? The 90's had 'Thief', and we have this shallow, empty open world hack n slash pseudo-RPG.
DrizzySurfuh 14 Apr, 2021 @ 6:36pm
I'd recommend using the alternative start mod if you mod your game enough since the prologue is script heavy and will pretty much always crash or break if you have enough mods.
Flygon 5 Apr, 2021 @ 10:34pm
Props for using Nexus links instead of Steam Workshop. For anyone who wants to mod this game for anything more complex than say a new sword, please use Nexus and save yourself a lot of hassle in the long run.
