"Team Fortress 2 is a game that rewards teamwork. Playing while actively communicating with a friend on the same team can often boost your performance. Here are some tips on communication:
  • Use a third-party voice communication software like Skype or Mumble. This is because voice communication is a lot easier and efficient than using text, and you can all talk on the go.
  • Do not, I repeat DO NOT, use the in-game voice chat and text chat (default key: Y). Most servers have allspeak on by default, meaning that the enemy team can hear all of your plans.
  • Keep your language clear and short. Any extra second wasted is another chance to die.
  • Call out on Sentries, approaching Spies, Snipers and any other hazards.
  • Pay attention to the chat! Teammates may post vital info there.

Of course, you don't always play with friends. Even if you do, communicating with your team is still essential to victory. Here are some general tips on that:
  • Use team chat (default key: U) to communicate with your team without the enemy team reading your plans.
  • As usual, call out on any hazards ahead.
  • Keep it short so that they can get what you're saying at a glance.
