Goal

The goal of the game is very simple, kill your opponent! To play online, click Multiplayer, and to practice offline, click Practice. Practice mode allows you to fight against bots.

In Wickland, there are many beasts and items that are placed strategically around the map that will give you fighting advantage and thus increasing your chance of winning. Players start as human characters with the ability to pick up and morph into other beast characters. Knowing the location and spawn times of the pickups is important, hence knowing how to control and deny your opponent from the pickups is the key to winning the game.

Join a Camp

To join a Camp, which is a lobby server where players can gather and play with each other, simply click on Multiplayer from the main menu and select a Camp that has the lowest ping to you.
Warmup

Once you've joined a Camp, you will see a Warmup button near the top left corner of the screen. Warmup is a Free-for-All deathmatch mode where multiple players can join and frag each other for fun. It is meant for players to practice with each other and get familiar with the game mechanics. In Warmup, each human kill nets you 2 points, while each beast kill nets you 1 point. On the other hand, if you die, you will lose 2 points, and if you lose a beast, you will lose 1 point. The points are only for the current match and so the resultant score will not influence your ranking or win-loss record.

Duel
To challenge another player to a duel, scroll your mouse button or hit the left/right key, and click on the Duel button. Player avatars are automatically represented by the beasts from the game depending on the amount of time and damage the player has done with the specific beast. The numbers above the player avatars indicates win-loss record, which should give you a general idea of the player's skill level.

In duel mode, beasts are unique, which means that once a beast has been taken by a player, it will not respawn until the beast has been killed. When a beast is killed however, it will respawn after 15 seconds at the same location where it was first picked up. Protecting your own beasts while stripping away your opponent's is a great strategy to master.
Wall Jump

Wall jumping is simple to execute but difficult to master. Simply jump towards a wall at a slight angle, while holding down any directional key, and hit jump again as you touch the wall. Player will gain a temporary boost in speed when executing a wall jump. To maintain this speed boost, quickly jump again upon landing. This skill is vital in chasing or retreating from opponents, and if done right, a player can quickly traverse the whole map within seconds!
Player View

The red cross represents player’s health. When health reaches 0, the player dies and loses the match if in a duel. All characters start with 100 armor, which is shown at the bottom-center of the screen. The maximum health and armor a player can acquire is 200. However, if either health or armor is above 100, the value will gradually rot towards 100 every second. This is to ensure game balance between the opposing players.

In the above example, the player has morphed into Ixi, the bat beast, and thus 80% of all incoming damage will be absorbed by this beast. When using a beast, be particularly mindful of this value. When this number reaches 0, the beast dies, respawns after 15 seconds, and becomes available for players to pick up again. The third number on the right is the “ammunition” amount, with each character requiring its own ammunition type in order to use their skills. Ammunition are also placed strategically around the map. Thus, memorizing their locations will certainly help players gain an advantage over their opponents.

Near the top of the screen, the row of character icons shows all the beasts that the player has acquired, with their corresponding armor value giving the player a quick overview of the beasts’ state. Remember, if the armor value reaches 0 for any beast, the beast will die, and the player loses the beast. A good strategy is to pick up armor and refill those value so they remain healthy.

From the above example, Ramskull, the goat-like beast, isn’t looking healthy, which is indicated by the red text. All incoming damage and armor pick ups are directed to the currently morphed beast, hence, knowing when to switch between beasts to refill their armor value and avoid damage is a great skill to practice. Nevertheless, it is inevitable that beasts will be killed many times during the match. This creates an interesting dynamic between the players as they fight over control throughout the fight.

Lastly, the clock is shown top right corner of the screen to indicate the elapsed match time. It is also there to help players time items and to know exactly when items will respawn.
Characters
All characters or beasts have 2 abilities, a primary and secondary ability. Every character has strengths and weaknesses; some characters are better at far range, while others are better at close to med range. Knowing when to use what character depending on the situation of the fight will increase the player’s chance of winning. Also mastering and knowing how to use the different abilities in combination can be effective in different types of situations. Each character requires a specific type of ammo, which will respawn every 15 seconds.
Human

Class: Crusader, Identity unknown
Weapon: Repeating Crossbow
Ammo: +50 Crossbow Bolts, max 200 Bolts

Primary Skill: 10 damage per shot with a rate of fire of 10 shots per second
Secondary Skill: 30 damage per 3 shot burst and can knock back enemy

Primary skill is great for dealing consistent and reliable damage while the secondary skill is a rapid 3 shot burst that deals some damage with a high knock back effect. The secondary skill is great for denying players from picking up important items. The human character can be very effective and can stand toe to toe with any beast if used correctly.

Lizard - Neymar

Class: Assassin
Weapon: Claw
Ammo: +50 Cloak Dust, max 100 Dust

Primary Skill: Become invisible
Secondary Skill: Melee damage of 100 per swing

Sneak up on players while in stealth mode and use the secondary skill to melee them for a high burst damage. Use the cloaking ability to also steal important items such as potions and armor.

Ape - Ursus

Class: Warlord, General of the Hayan army
Weapon: Hand Cannon
Ammo: +10 Molten Shots, max 25 Shots

Primary Skill: Single punch shot for 45 damage if all shots land (each pellet deals 5 damage)
Secondary Skill: Double punch shot for 90 damage if all shots land

The single punch shot is great for medium range encounters, and is much more accurate than the double punch shot. However, the double punch shot is great for close range battles as it can deal a ton of burst damage in a very short time. Knowing how to chain or combo single and double punch shots depending on the situation will make Ursus more effective in battles.

Lycan - Didrik

Class: Pirate, Captain of “Bellarus”
Weapon: Bomb
Ammo: +10 Bombs, max 25 Bombs

Primary Skill: 80 damage per bomb with a splash radius of 250 units
Secondary Skill: Manually detonate the bombs one at a time

The bombs will detonate after 2.5 seconds or can be manually detonated with the secondary skill. Timing the manual detonation is very important to mastering the bomb and can be extremely deadly in all sorts of encounters.
Goat - Ramskull

Class: Necromancer, Chief of Zalakan tribe
Weapon: Explosive Soul
Ammo: +10 Explosive Souls, max 25 Souls

Primary Skill: 80 damage per soul with a splash radius of 200 units
Secondary Skill: 80 damage per soul that will seek out enemy with a splash radius of 200 units

Use the primary skill to fire a fast explosive soul that will travel straight. Use the secondary skill for a much slower explosive soul that will seek out the enemy that is closest to the crosshair. Use both of these abilities together to trap enemies more effectively in tight areas or around corners.
Fish - Tass

Class: Scientist, Bio Engineer from the town of Pescadores
Weapon: Lightning
Ammo: +100 Lightning, max 200 Lightning

Primary Skill: 5 damage per zap with a rate of 20 zaps per second
Secondary Skill: Shoots a 35 damage slow moving orb of lightning that can be discharged for maximum of 90 radial damage

Primary skill is great for medium to far range assault for consistent damage, while the secondary skill is effective for area denial. The secondary skill is a slow moving orb of lightning that can be zapped to create a large chain lightning that will damage anyone nearby.
Scorpion - Hanzo

Class: Hunter, Prince of Orocco
Weapon: Poison Sting
Ammo: +10 Poison Darts, max 25 darts

Primary Skill: 80 damage per shot with infinite range
Secondary Skill: Shoots 9 poison darts that deal 10 damage each and can bounce off walls once

Use the primary skill for hit and run “sniping” encounters while the secondary skill is excellent for medium to close range battles. The poison darts can bounce off walls once and can be useful to deny enemies from closing distance or turning around corners. The dart is shot one after another in a rapid succession, and hence will be influence by the direction of the crosshair allowing several types of “sweeping” dart attacks.
Bat - Ixi

Class: Sorcerer, Apprentice of Arkhani
Weapon: Arcane Bolt
Ammo: +50 Arcane Bolts, max 100 bolts

Primary Skill: 25 damage per bolt with a splash radius of 70 units each bolt
Secondary Skill: Fire 5 bolts at the same time in a fan-like spread

Primary skill is an all around useful damage dealing ability for all sorts of situations, and is most useful for medium range encounters. The secondary skill however, is great for tight hallways and can deal a decent amount of splash damage when all 5 bolts are concentrated on one spot.

@Hotpockets The scoreboard is there simply for reference, it doesn't count towards your ranking.

@maciekson I'm 100% positive that human is 10 shots per second, since that's how we coded it :)

"Human (...)

Are you sure it's 10 sps?

Include this on the game, awesome guide! but something that botters me, why the hell a deathmatch mode is just a warm up? I for one hate 1on1 on this type of arena games, I love the chaos! keep up the good work guys, this is good fun, needs content! Thumbs UP
