The Pilatus Flak Frigate was designed by TVSI Engineers in 2085 to fill a unique role within the growing fleet line-up; protecting capital ships. Although all Tristavian Shipyards craft are built with an integrated point defense system, designers have found the concept often doesn’t scale up well to the largest Battlehips, and the low manoeuvrability of such ships anyway prevents utilizing such a system to its fullest.

The Flak Frigate is designed to be a mobile, rapid response counterpart to capital ships, adding its own Battleship-level point defense system to those it protects and allowing for better cross-fire to intercept enemy fighters and missiles. The unique ‘Arch’ which runs both dorsally and ventrally gives the turrets along it superb line of sight and leaves the ship without a single blind spot to be exploited while keeping the maximum number of turrets firing at once. Alongside an enormous 52 Point Defense Turrets the ship also carries 6 Gatling Turrets as standard, all with superb firing arcs.

Following very similar dimensions to TVSI’s previous Frigate the Kinabalu, the Pilatus masses a lot less. A Flak Frigate is not designed to engage similar sized or larger capital ships and carries only light armour and lacks a full sized secondary reactor, though a significant number of batteries and small reactors give the Captain a fall-back if necessary. The Pilatus also contains a much larger ammo store than normal, allowing it to remain operational during the extended engagements typical of supporting a Battleship.

Internally, on B-Deck, the Pilatus contains the standard rear engineering with a single reactor. Gyros and other instruments are scattered throughout the vessel. Ammo storage is primarily in two large containers mid ship, giving an enormous capacity for a frigate. Four cabins provide accommodation for 24 crew members of various ranks and a 2 man senior officer quarter is reserved for the Captain and XO. Much of the mid-ship is dedicated to a spacious Combat Bridge and a smaller A-Deck contains the mess hall (with space views from protected, recessed windows) and a small single man navigation bridge.

Rev 1: In 2104 at the onset of the war with the CEU most Pilatus had been decommissioned having seen little service with the Republic fleet. The launch of TVSI’s Falak carrier once again generated a need for close protection escorts and the remaining Pilatus were upgraded to modern standards.

TVSI Pilatus Flak Frigate (Rev 1)

Mount Pilatus is a mountain overlooking Lucerne in Central Switzerland. It is composed of several summits of which the highest (2,128 m) is named Tomlishorn. Another summit named Esel (2,119 m) lies just over the railway station. Jurisdiction over the massif is divided between the cantons of Obwalden, Nidwalden, and Lucerne. The main peaks are right on the border between Obwalden and Nidwalden.

In 2036 Mount Pilatus was officially closed to the public and the European Coalition began construction of the western hemisphere’s first ground-orbit cargo railgun deep beneath. Although beaten to the title of the world’s first railgun by China in 2037, the successful test fire at Pilatus in 2041 delivered a colossal 360 tonnes to low earth orbit; nearly 120 times the single fire capacity of other operational cargo railguns at the time.

With a 45,000m long barrel and 6m calibre, the ‘Dragon Mount’ railgun remains one of the largest even at the close of the century and is calculated to have delivered just over 4 billion tonnes of cargo to Low Earth Orbit, firing one package approximately every 120 seconds. For the first decade of operation, packages were equipped with small rocket fuel thrusters to self-circularize orbits at the apogee point of around 820,000m. Power capacity upgrades in 2047 allowed for the firing of smaller packages directly to 35,786,000m where a geostationary facility uses tug-drones to capture the packages at their apogee. Approximately 1 in 200 packages gains enough undesirable momentum to miss the facility’s sphere of influence and eventually returns to Earth to be collected and re-fired.

Although heralded by governments as an environmental saviour compared to burning fuels and SSTO systems, ground-to-orbit cargo railguns still have a significant environmental impact. The colossal sonic shocks of the Dragon Mount barrel caused massive avalanches on neighbouring mountains during the first year of operations, eventually stripping mount Pilatus of snow and the lower altitude soil coverings, leaving nothing but exposed, fractured rock even in the middle of winter. The continual minor quakes eventually led to the evacuation of most neighbouring towns within a 25 kilometre radius, though a limited part of Lucerne was rebuilt in the 2080s as a tourist destination. Massive heatsinks for the railgun beneath Lake Lucerne keep the usually alpine waters between 37°C and 52°C all year round. The Lion of Lucerne monument, shattered in the first few weeks of operations, is a frequently used symbol by environmental protestors worldwide.

Skybox: Originally by SpaceMan who went inactive. AedanXaelan was kind enough to track him down for me and now maintains it. http://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=305301094&searchtext=

Blueprint: I actually wrote a Tutorial for this FReXTi as they proved so popular when I did my first one. It can be found at http://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=311634092

Sorry I'm not sure I understand? If you mean the purple backdrop, it's a Skybox called Purple Gamma available on the Steam Workshop :)
