Before Reading this Guide
  • Before you start reading this guide you will have to have installed your Ultimate DOOM the way how it is showed on the guide that I will leave the link below this text. If you will not install the game that way first, you will be missing some files and the mods/custom maps won't work. After installing your game that way, come back and continue in this guide

http://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=259195652
Getting the mod files ready
  • First, you should chose the mod/map you want to download for your Ultimate DOOM
  • There are a lot of mods but most of them are for Doom 2, so be carefull to download a mod for Ultimate DOOM and not Doom 2
  • I will leave some links for pages with Doom wads here (they have even Doom 2 wads on the pages) but I will use the Knee-Deep in ZDoom mod in this guide with custom maps, guns, enemies and other stuff

Links for Doom Wads (and the mod I will be using):
Knee-Deep in ZDoom[kdizd.drdteam.org]
Doom Wikia Wads[doom.wikia.com]
Doom World - IDgames[www.doomworld.com]
Doom World - Top 100 WADs of all time[www.doomworld.com]
(there are many other pages, it is really not hard to find them, just search a little)
The Ultimate DOOM skin (mods) file
  • Fist you have to go to the files where is your Ultimate DOOM installed and open the base file
[Mostly it is C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\Ultimate Doom - but if you have your Steam installed in other file go there]

  • Open the base file that is in it. There should be a file called skins, this will be the file where you will be putting your mods in, just open it and keep it there
Adding the mod files into the game
  • After you have downloaded the mod just open the skins file where you can find a text file called about. You can just delete it or ignore it. It won't have a effect on the mod/map

  • Open the ZIP file where you have your mod/map and copy everything from it into the skins file
(It doesn't always have to be a ZIP file, it can also be a single WAD file or many other files with text documents in it. It all depends what mod you are downloading and how it is made)
Playing the mod/map
  • Now you can just close everything, open your Steam library, and run Ultimate DOOM
  • Your Steam will still say that you are playing Ultimate DOOM and count hours played to your game after you run it, you can also open Steam inside the game like always
  • You can also add more mods at once or different mods together, but some of them may not work together or may not run correctly because they were not made to run that way. Before you use them that way it would be better to look if the mods don't replace the same item/enemy/map or anything that they would have in common
(you can mostly find what the mod contains on the page you are downloading it from, or you can just simply goggle it)
  • Also in some mods you may be needed to use jump or crotch, even if you won't find that writen anywhere, you may find that out on your own in the game, you will just need to set the buttons in options because in default there are no jump and crotch buttons
  • It can even be any different bottoms like reaload, use second item, different attacks but all of them should be located in the controls option menu, you will just have to select a button for every one of them before you can use them. Some of them may work automatically

  • Have fun

I don't think you should try this guide anymore. I am considering to put it into limbo since the game was actually updated now that Bethesda owns Doom and the files and everything is different now

Add the 'skins' folder yourself if it's not there. Right-click within the 'base' window, hover over 'New', select 'Folder'. Name it 'skins'.

Is it possible the skins folder is somewhere else? I cannot find it in the base folder.
