Lord Upgrades (Skill Points & Level)

Description
By Grungi's Beard!

This is a pick up from TW:Warhammer I. I know this is yet another skill point mod, but we all do a little something different. I made this as a personal overhaul, but adjusted it so this one works outside of it and decided to upload it for everyone. FYI, if you use a mod that changes skills earned in any way, these mods will just overlap and double/triple/etc the points earned.

Here's what the mod does:

  • First Rank = 3 Skill Points (Generals) / 2 Skill Points (Heroes)
  • Second Rank = 2 Skill Points (Generals) / 1 Skill Points (Heroes)
  • Every 3 Ranks beyond the 2nd Rank give 2 Skills Points (Generals)
  • Every 6 Ranks beyond the 2nd Rank give 2 Skills Points (Heroes)
  • All Ranks inbetween the 3/6 (G/H) ranks give the normal 1 Skill Point
  • Extends Max Ranks beyond 28 to 42
  • Adjusted EXP points needed for Ranks that offer more than 1 skill
  • Heavily increased EXP points needed for Ranks beyond 25
  • EXP needed between Ranks grows (Rank 1 = 900 EXP; Rank 40 = 100,000 EXP)

Rationale:

I feel that first steps beyond being an absolutely new general or hero, the learning is going to be very parabolic. Your initial skill set from just one battle will give your nub lord a lot of insight into how to lead an army that much better. When I look at initial battles in the early game, these tend to be the closest in difficulty and frequent. But by turn 40 I feel as though I still have a half a dozen idiot sevants leading my men. I don't feel the initial uptick as unbalanced as all races get these advantages. You might feel that way after your first battle win, because depending you might get 2 ranks which would be 5 skills to select. And at that point it will feel OP, but as time goes on, you'll feel that grind.

As well I felt the more I played the more I would bottom out generals at 28 and are left for want. I drag my games out though. I feel that all generals and heroes should be able to fill all their trees (or close to it). That comes with a ridiculous amount of EXP points, but it's still possible.

Methodology:

Generals:

Have 4 trees including the mount and special abilities at the top.
With exception to special races like WE or Beastmen, the 3 main branches (Gold, Red, Blue) have 3 gates and 18 (9x2) ability upgrades per branch. This means the majority of Generals have potentially 63 to 70 skills possibly to choose from.

3+2+1+1+(2+1+1)*[(40-4)/3] = 55 Skill Point Max (with this Mod) vs 28 (vanilla)

Heroes:

Have generally 2 main skill branches and one speciality. With exception to special races like WE or Beastmen, the 2 main branches (Gold, Blue) have 3 gates and 18 (9x2) ability upgrades per branch (with a lot of exceptions to the 9 rule). This means the majority of Heroes have potentially 40 to 50 skills possibly to choose from.

2+1+1+1+(2+1+1)*[(40-4)/6] = 29 Skill Point Max

I gotta say I think you have the right idea for how to do an "extra skill points" mod, compared to everyone else. It's hard to put a finger on what it is exactly, so I'll just say that your balanced approach to when the extra skill points are given is an improvement over the general trend for you to get them 'all at once' in other mods.

I leave it on at all times and, and probably always will! :imprison:
