Portal standing

Description
Test out your portal standing skills! Portal standing is not a ninja technique nor a speedrunning technique. It is, however, a slick trick that requires patience, so don't give up!

Fun fact: portal standing is easier in the original Portal!

Don't be fooled by the picture above. This is a Puzzlemaker test that's been lightly tweaked in Hammer, using custom soundcapes instead of music, as well as warm lighting.

I think that was also called Reportaling if I'm not mistaken...
Nevertheless, this isn't one of my more serious maps, even though it does contain a puzzle.

Yes, I used that trick in Portal 1 too, PortalPoping if I remember right. There is a way you can PortalPop in Poral 2 as welll but you need the floor to do it.

@Andi
In Portal 1, the beam had a speed that had a noticable delay. In Portal 2, they made it the beam travel the speed of light, or near-instant in practical purposes. Portal 1 it is easier to perform the trick and gets even easier as distance increases. Portal 2, near impossible, probably for good reason as the focus shifted from trying a new game mechanic to creating intricite puzzles that should use logical techniques rather than programming quirks.

I've seen this trick before... I'm not a fan of it, it's too hard to do... at least for me it is.

"Portal Throwing" is an extension of "Portal Standing". :P

The trick to portal standing is staying in the center of the portal.

What you're describing is a variation on portal standing that I call "portal throwing." I've abused it in the same place that you have. Afaik, "portal throwing" is not possible in Portal 2.

I'm guessing pixel perfect is key here in this Portal 2 map. I can then see why ninja and speedrunning is not the case here as you mention.

Oh, I've done that, even abused it in Test Chamber 19 of Portal 1 to see how far spread I can get the Portals because portals adhere instantly when you click in Portal 2 and in Portal 1 there is a delay that gets longer with more distance between you and the portal surface. I move myself in between this delay.

From the VDC : "...Portal standing lets a player use a Portal as a ledge, allowing the player to continue moving by shooting additional Portals. Peek-a-portal is required to obtain a Gold for the Least Portals challenge on Test Chamber 15 [in Portal 1]."

Basically all you're doing is standing on the edges of portals. It's not a speedrunning or major glitch technique, and it is indeed easier to execute in Portal 1 than it is Portal 2. I just thought players might enjoy a bit of a challenge. Good thing this test doesn't require the carrying of a cube through portals.

What is "Portal Standing"? Do you have an example video what you mean by this, either demonstrated in Portal 1 or Portal 2, preferably Portal 1 since you say it is easier to perform in that game? Maybe I can better understand what you mean.
