Criteria for addition to this Curator
To be listed in this curator, the GNU/Linux (SteamOS) version of the game/app should conform to the following criteria:
  • If it has a SteamOS/Linux icon on the Store page, it must have (any of the following):
    • Bugs that aren't present in versions for other operating systems.
      • Being unable to start the game (possibly with workarounds)
    • Poor performance compared to other systems.
    • Lack of features compared to other systems.
      • Achievements not working, except when they're broken on all systems.
    • Problems specific to some Linux distribution or particular drivers.
      • Only if the distro/driver is fairly popular and doesn't have numerous problems with other Steam games.
      • Only if this isn't disclosed on the game's Store page.
  • If it does not have Linux support listed on the store page:
    • It must work well, even if that requires workarounds.

If the problem has a workaround, it shall be linked to as the "full review" link, and have a mention in the "recommendation" text (e.g. "see link for workaround"). If there are other relevant details or proofs, they should be linked as well.

These criteria are not final. Feel free to suggest changes or clarifications.

Some points that have been brought up recently:

--------

But the requiments of the game say clearly that you need the properety drivers. So who is buggy. The game or the user that try to play with an unsupported driver?

This is a good point and I'm considering to change our policy accordingly.

--------

Posting more games that support Linux but aren't listed on the Store page.

This criteria page specifies that the game is supposed to support Linux well, but that was not on the main page until now.

Not entirely sure what to do about hidden Linux betas. Probably worth highlighting them, if they aren't bugged.

Seeing as many of the games listed here have since lost their SteamOS badge, we need to come up with a better policy for allowing/disallowing these.

My main idea: allow games that support Linux but without a SteamOS badge on the store page, only if they work well, even if it requires a workaround.

On the one hand, I feel a bit uncomfortable with recommending games when Linux isn't officially supported, but on the other hand, if people are eager to try a game while it's in an open beta, it's good for all of us if that game has more Linux testers to help highlight issues, and it might lead to an overall more positive "Linux experience" for the developer and might speed up the release. So, I guess I'm leaning towards recommending them.

I think that's a good idea as well, but in certain cases, like with AIR games, we should point out that they probably won't work on SteamOS at all (as far as I know).
