ABOUT -(TRE)- IV Legion of the Howling Wolf

Whoever said the Wolves of the 4th Legion were ordinary Roman soldiers with predictable Roman Tactics, has obviously never met their Mad General......

As Lambs are to Wolves
Light mist hung in the air, an oppressive presence that permeated the air with the smell and fear of men standing shoulder to shoulder. Sweat, anxiety, grime and residue from two months of campaigning, made nostrils flare up if inhaled too deeply. Elm trees towered above the measly column of four hundred, some armed with spears whilst a few wore short swords and shields to the side.

“This was a bad idea,” said the Captain of the Sicilian Company to the Centurion standing beside him. “Your General is crazy for bringing us here.”
The Centurion didn’t even spare the man a glance as he replied, arms folded and leaning casually on his square shield. “He’s your General too and yes, the man is crazy.”
The Sicilian Captain’s eyebrows rose in startled surprise, “And you would follow a mad man – to your death?!”
The Roman officer shrugged, “Oh yes, we’ll follow him; but we won’t be going to our deaths – not today at least.”

The captain fidgeted nervously and so did his three hundred spears standing close by.
“You don’t call getting surrounded by Gauls, walking into death?”
The Centurion did not answer, but a sly grin crossed the man’s cheeks and the Captain gulped.
“You’re all mad...” he mumbled.

Abruptly, the forest floor shook with a sudden explosion of noise. A thousand throats filled with bone chilling war cries, as the Barbarians advanced to claim their blood price. Trees shook, the leaves shooks, even the air seem to tremble and cow under the immensity of the Gallic charge.

The centurion calmly drew his Gladius from its scabbard, never once changing his expression from that stupid half-grin. He looked at the Sicilian Captain, “I call first dibs on the women.”
“Wha-?!” but before the man could finish, the Centurion was already off.
“Deinceps lupis ululantibus! Sequuntur fratrum gladium!... “The centurion called to his hundred.
Follow the howling wolves! Forward the Wolf brothers! They were off, their throats a snarl of howls and snapping jaws. More animal then men, the blue clad legionaries charged the oncoming Gallic horde.
