PwG Folding@Home Team(PwGFT) Discussion/Info Thread
Psychward Gaming now has an official folding team! Help us fold for a cure!

If you're not new to folding, just set your team id to 226088 and you're all set to fold!

If you're new to folding and don't know where to start, keep reading.

Q: What is folding@home?
Folding is a worldwide distributed computing effort conducted by Stanford University to understand how proteins assemble themselves. The real world applications of this research includes potential cures for diseases such as Alzheimer's, cancer, and Parkinson's.

Q: Why should I fold? What's in it for me?
By folding you are helping researchers understand how proteins fold, and the mechanisms by which they misfold. In gaining an understanding of these processes, we may be able to create treatments for various illnesses such as Alzheimer's, cancer, and Parkinson's.

Q: Will folding slow my computer down?
The folding application only uses idle clock cycles, meaning that if another application has need of the CPU, the folding application will decrease its usage until the other application's needs have been satisfied. The only drain on system resources is the RAM that's utilized, which remains utilized even when other applications are using the CPU.

Download folding@home at their website:

I would, but I only have access to a phone at the moment.

There's actually a folding app for android phones, but it doesn't let you select a specific team to join. Instead of giving you a score for submitting work units, it tells you the number of hours you have folded. It also only runs when both:

A. Phone is connected to charger
B. Phone is fully charged

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sonymobile.androidapp.gridcomputing&hl=en

It's only officially available to Sony Android phones so the play store may say that none of your devices are compatible, but it works on most other recent Android phones. You can download the apk here:

https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/sony-mobile-communications/foldinghome/

and install it manually.

Downloaded the store version. Crashes when I try to open it. I'll try the apk later...

Sometime in the last week we crossed 1000 total work units completed and 1.6 million points. Won't be long til we hit the 2 million threshold!

Great work everyone!
