[DLR] World Cup
Yes, it's time to dust off this old chestnut.

I am proposing a DLR world cup, to really test the mettle of all DLR players, worldwide.
Yes, in the past we have discussed at length the logistical difficulties of hosting this type of tournament, but I believe it is possible.

I am putting forward this idea now; in its infancy, to garner interest, and to tweak the tournament so that all players can be happy in how it is run.

Rather than putting forward a definite format, I am opening the forum to the players who will be competing, to decide how best to run it.

Here are some ideas I am proposing, and feel free to tell me I’m a complete imbocile, or how to best add to these:

My personal opinion would be to have each country host a National cup, to decide their best team, and then have that team face off against the best of the other countries.

If there are 3 countries, then I propose a round-robin style format.
Each team will play the other once on their own country’s server, and once on the opposing country’s server, in a best of 3 format.

(i.e – Team USA VS Team Aus @ USA; then, TeamAus VS TeamUSA @ Aus)

Points will be awarded for a win and a loss. (I might also suggest that a win in an opposing country’s server should be worth more points, but we can discuss that further.)
Each match should be decided on the same campaigns, with scores recorded for tie-breaking purposes, should the need arise.

So, if after 3 rounds (foregoing the possibility of a tie-breaker being needed):

Team 1 – 2 wins & 0 losses
Team 2 – 1 win & 1 loss
Team 3 – 0 wins & 2 losses

This would mean that team 1 is the World Cup champion!

However, as I state before it may be necessary for a tie-breaker if the teams were to finish as:

Team 1 – 1 win & 1 loss
Team 2 – 1 win & 1 loss
Team 3 – 1 win & 1 loss

This could be decided as the points differential from the campaigns, teams with the highest overall points would advance to a playoff for World Champion.

So, in the event that there are 4 countries with National Champions, or 2 teams left from the 3 country round-robin, the format could work as follows:

Single elimination, in a best of 3 format across 3 country’s servers, once in each Country’s server, then once in a neutral server.

For example:

Round 1 – Tokyo, Japan.

Team USA1 vs Team Aus1 – Dead Centre
Team USA1 vs Team Aus1 – No Mercy
Team USA1 vs Team Aus1 – Dead Air

Round 2 – Sydney, Australia.

Team USA1 vs Team Aus1 – Dead Centre
Team USA1 vs Team Aus1 – No Mercy
Team USA1 vs Team Aus1 – Dead Air

Round 3 – Central/East/West, USA.

Team USA1 vs Team Aus1 – Dead Centre
Team USA1 vs Team Aus1 – No Mercy
Team USA1 vs Team Aus1 – Dead Air

Again, points would be awarded for a win and a loss, with tie-breaking being decided by points differential – with the winning team being crowned [DLR] World Champions.

I would love some feedback, and I want this tournament to be decided by the players, for the players.

After we can decide how many countries will be entering, we can ensure the correct format is used.
So please, register your interest below for your respective country! Otherwise, you will be left out! OR, visit the DLR World Cup group page which can be found here.

I acknowledge that this will not be easy to get going, but when it does get going, it will be well worth it.

I look forward to any and all input!

This will be E P I C, and it can only happen with the appropriate input and participation from YOU !

Let's do it !

I will reserve the first few posts for any updates, etc.

Alternatively, instead of the 3 matches (1 on team 1's home server, 1 on team 2's home server and 1 on a neutral server) perhaps the scores can be calculated as the scores from both games added up and put together to give and over all score. Eg. Scores from the first match where team 1 has the ping advantage are 3150 (team 1) - 1120 (Team 1). Then scores from the second match where team 2 has the ping advantage are 3400 (Team 2)- 700 (Team 1). Therefore the overall scores would be: Team 1 = 3850 and Team 2 = 4520, therefore team 2 would win. This would make the process a lot quicker and make it easier to oragnise matches as the teams would only have to organise 2 instead of 3. But yeah as Dharok said it's up to the players entering as to which they prefer (if any) or even post their own suggestions.

i am up for the fun , however it goes
and doing it on DLR servers is way better but i think he asked us to play on a gauntlet server ?

but starting some tournaments is a great idea
lets all keep it fun and nice ,since we are all friends

I am here and available for any help needed

O.Z - this is not related to whomever that fellow is that 'challenged' DLR.

This is completely separate, and not related to that post in any way. If anyone wishes to discuss that 'challenge', they should start another thread to discuss it. :)

This thread is for the discussion of the DLR World Cup!

I don't think officers are supporting this or even heard about it. How are you regulating servers you don't own for the tourney?
Dharok 26 Oct, 2014 @ 10:15pm
Haven't heard about it, because I'm throwing the idea out there now to garner interest, Pure.
I own my own server in Australia, and can host that for part of the cup.
If you don't want to support it, then so be it.

This sounds like a fantastic idea and I'm down for it.

Not sure how many servers each country has (that is something to consider since USA has so many), would USA servers compete against each other to end up with one USA team that would then compete against other countries?

Would teams get assembled based on locale? If so players could temporarily have name set with DLR-whatever server they would be "connected to".

Should maps be randomized or should each match be on the same map to gauge winner more effectively?

I think there is a great base here for a fantastically fun time! And I agree E.P.I.C.

Yes, that's the plan - Each country would hold their own national cup first to decide the best team of the respective country, who would then take their place in the world cup. I know the post is a long one to read, but it is in there lol.
Each team would have a 'tag' for the world cup i.e - "[DLRAu] - Dharok" or something along those lines.
For the national cup, they would have a tag of their team name - so if their team name was "Team USDLR" their tag could possibly be "[USDLR] - Brin" or something along those lines. Anything is possible!

I think the campaigns should be the same across each country, and either be randomly generated, or agreed upon by both participating teams. Again, this is in the post lol :P

Hahahaha thanks Peppermint. It was only cool WHEN I started talking about it :p
JTF<3rae 28 Oct, 2014 @ 12:57pm
Love the sound of this! I'll be sure to tell my friend about it ;)
totschlager 28 Oct, 2014 @ 1:47pm
absolutely .. i would do this.. the format seems solid on the round robin tourney style where with 1 loss ur moved to the looser brscket and have to fight ur way out.. we may need to set a server aside for training of competing teams..
Amaranth 28 Oct, 2014 @ 4:11pm
Also with teams wishing to train perhaps they can post notifications either in this DLR group or more likely the DLR World Cup group asking for a scrim with another team to practice and then just pick an empty server.
