Just look at how far the project's come.
That does look pretty nice though.
It seems like clients have interoperability issues. See "Tox" is just the core. "uTox" and "qTox" are both clients using that core. As such, there is some client incompatabilities right now, but I'm certain that will all be worked out in the near future.
People just like to talk about impeding doom and that's fine. But don't discredit a project simply because "lol, imageboard users made it."

Discord grew to be the most used trash in all of internet trashland, mumble sucks now and I can't live without this, WTF HAPPENED TO ME?

The software is the same, it's us who are different. It lacks the features that people have come to expect from services, like inline images, emojis and dank meme 'stickers'...
Why do you think IRC is dying? It's because it functionally can't compete with other services.
