No Text on Linux version

Running a mobile AMD GPU that handled it fine running windows.
When I run the game none of the menu text shows up. All buttons are blank.
Things I tried:
verified the game integrity (twice)
checked to make sure text files existed in directory (they do)
switched to different drivers (the open source one had text but the graphics were absolutely garbage and it lagged bad)
the proprietary driver runs well graphically, just no menu text is showing.
Any ideas?

I installed Civ V on my laptop and my desktop, both running Mint 16. The text appears on my desktop, but not the laptop. Just when I thought I could play on my laptop...

So far it looks like everyone afflicted has Radeon HD 5xxx and 6xxx cards. I was testing on an AMD E350 APU device; I'll get the detailed information posted once I get home.

I had this problem with the default proprietary driver on Mint 15. The open source driver failed to load textures.

Downloaded the beta drivers from ATI's website (14.6 Beta). Now I have both text and textures. Haven't had a chance to play a full game but starting a game seems fine.

On a AMD HD7500 on a 64 bit OS

Hmm, I'm not using the open source driver, but I'm not using the beta driver either. Can't wait to get home to try this out.

I had the same problem on ubuntu 32 bit with a HD6570 video card. After updating the ati drivers it worked for me too
