I have only tested the wired option myself (hence why i only listed wired in the controller breakdown); so wireless functionality with PS4, XB1 & X360 Controllers may work as intended (other users have reported that wireless options for these controllers do work).
In regards to the Steam Controller aspect have you tried changing the settings in the Steam Controller configurations menu? You may be able to adjust options there for it to work as you wish.
I think the confusion arrises with controllers (XB1, PS4 etc) being configured as Steam Controllers in the configuration settings of Steam. Those who have XB1 & PS4 Controllers configured to display as Steam Controllers (which are not supported) will see the controller not work. If this option is unchecked then everything runs as intended.
Basically the game was optimised to work best with XB1 & PS4 layout controllers (in addition to keyboard mouse).
That's how they did in SKSV/EV, and I don't understand why they saw the need to do it any different. They tried to fix what was not broken, and there ya go.
Will have to resort to using KB and mouse at this rate (Blarrrgh!)
