Running server and Client with same account
Can I run a server on one system and a client on another with the same account? I'd like to start a server to test with, but I would need to have a client that can connect to it.

thanks

Hello,

I recently did that for testing dedicated server. It might be not the best - efficient way but it worked for me.

You can install the server with steamCMD, it will just create another instance of ARK. If you have free disk space that shouldn't be a problem. Once you're done start the dedicated server on that separate ARK. After that you will be able to run the game client from steam. Please keep in mind server takes up 5GB RAM, there's a chance you'd go out of memory and either dedicated server or your game crash :)

Please let me know if I you need more information, I'll try my best to explain.

rootifera, he ask if you can have 2 accounts of steam active in two separately systems, machines, pcs-laptops..... isn't you crono?
I want to know if its posible too. can some one from staff can answer please?

Its an important question!!!
Its an important answer!!!

the question is: can you have two pcs, one like a server and one like a user, with the steam account logged on, at same time, in each machine?

If is not...

Its any other way to have an ark server running on other machine? you are the admin and want to enter server to test it from another machine (that u have in the same room connected both throught isp and in same lan)?
2 pcs: 1 with the server on (not necessary logged?).
1 with the client logged and entring the server to test.
I don't know how to explain it better..... but its very simple so.... IS IT POSSIBLE?!
thanks in advance!
CHEERS!!!

I wish ark would just give out the server files for free like other games are doing these days, you can't play on it without a copy of the game from steam anyway so why make the server require steam too?

This is what I am trying to figure out right now. I have multiple computers and wanted to setup my own private server for myself and friends.

However I noticed an interesting problem: Simply running the dedicated server from in-game causes Steam to still think that you are playing the game, and Steam only allows you to play a game on one computer, once, per account.

So I've been trying to figure out how to run the dedicated sever either without Steam or in some way that allows me to boot up ARK on a different PC so that I can play on the same account.

Otherwise, the only other option is to buy the game twice to run two Steam accounts, which I think is just ridiculous.

I don't know what SteamCMD is and I am not sure how to manage both hosting and playing the game on the same account.

Please just google around for server install Ark. You will find clear instructions on how to setup an ARK server on another PC using the steam commandline tool. WIth that you can start and run a private server and join in from other PCs on the LAN or open it up to WAN play. It's really not that difficult. I think it's like 20 steps and they are straight forward and it will work.

Search for an app called Ark Server Launcher and install it on the PC you want to be a server. Run the application and it will help you install the server files via an Anonymous Steam download. It installs SteamCMD and everything for you. Even helps configure the server with various options and integrates ARKON for RCON access. Yo do not need two separate steam accounts. Yo do not need to buy the game twice. Yo do not need to pay more money for it. You can also run the ark server on the same PC as playing the game if you have a powerful enough PC.

I've tried that and I can't find anything. I keep finding links to a website that doesn't exist, the ARK forums before they came to Steam.

Exactly what keywords are you googling for? Perhaps you need to learn how to google better. I searched for "Setup Ark server" and the very first link takes me to the Wiki page that tells you how to setup the server. Every other link on that google search page works and takes me to other pages that tell me how to setup a server. One link is even for a Youtube page where you do not even have to read anything, just watch a video.

I just found ARKRemote on the server forums on Steam, didn't notice they had that seperated.

Unfortunately, now it's failing to install it's version of SteamCMD and doesn't work.

You can easily run it with one account, the only annoying thing is that whenever you update with the cmd is that you get disconnected from the Steam client since that is an instance on its own. Otherwise it runs perfectly fine. I've been running it on my rig and had no issues at all.
Granted, I do not use the dedicated server through steam. I just did the manual download with the cmd. Either way, it should work perfectly fine as my buddy does run it this way.

I'm running a private server and it keeps popping up that I just logged into ARK every 5 minutes.
