TyranoBuilder Visual Novel Studio

TyranoBuilder Visual Novel Studio

Patch 31 Oct, 2015 @ 12:14am
Unable to save in an exported (Windows) game
Hi there,

I was testing out the new version of Tyranobuilder (love it), but after creating a small little game, while testing it out, I noticed that I was only able to save to the first slot. All the other slots would not work.

I then decided to test this out by creating a new project and leaving everything default and then exporting it to Windows. I was then unable to save to any slot.

I tried it again for both my sample project and the "default" project and the same thing occured.

I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling Tyranobuilder and using another computer.

Note: I am able to save just perfectly in preview mode within Tyranobuilder.

Is there anything that can be done to fix this?

Thanks!

Patch 4 Nov, 2015 @ 7:51pm
I thought I'd try some other things to try and narrow things down.

I exported an old project that was converted to the new version and it was able to save just fine.

Very perplexing! I hope to find a fix soon!

Hey Patch sorry for not replying this thread slipped through the cracks somehow. We are aware that this problem sometimes pops up and havent found a solution for it so far.

What are the operating systems that you tried with? Also since saving in the new version does the old project still export and have the save functions working fine?
Patch 4 Nov, 2015 @ 11:51pm
For the old project that was converted- Saving works fine. Each slot works.

For the new project (made entirely within the V1.4 of Tyranobuilder) -

I tested it out just now on Windows 7 - Only the top save slot works.
I then tested it out on Windows 10 - It won't save at all.

I then tested an entirely new project with everything set to defaults, nothing added, and I wasn't able to save at all in both Win7 and Win10.

Wish I could help more! I do love this program!

Same problem here but I was able to get up to 4 slots working. The project was converted to the new format, exported on a Windows PC to Windows app.

Curious, approximately how big was your project? (how many scenes I suppose).

I believe there were 10 scenes total when I exported it. It has roughly 14,000 words and the exported file size is 121mb.
Patch 7 Nov, 2015 @ 9:43pm
For my old project that was converted to the new version I had about 10 scenes as well. I don't know how many words exactly, but mashing on the keyboard it'd take about 2-3 hours to complete. I was able to save to all 5 slots. (Exported size was about 200mb)

While I'm too lazy to test more at the moment, I wonder if the length/size of the project has something to do with the save files.

Makes no sense, but seeing that a short little demo lets me use one slot and just leaving things at default and then exporting lets me use no slots... it is interesting!

Im sending off to the developer some sample projects and example exports today, are ether of you interested in passing your projects along for him to check out?

If you all could test this for me:

1. Select a project which is having trouble using the save functionality on export
2. at the start of the scene add an iscript box
3. paste this into the iscript box: localStorage.clear();
4. save the project and preview the game up to the point that you know the game has gone past the iscript box.
5. export the game and test the save functionality

Does this resolve the issue?

I just tested it out and it worked! I am now able to save just fine.

Of course, leaving the iscript box in deletes all the files whenever the user gets to that point. I'm guessing that it should be taken out before exporting and things should be okay on the user's end correct (in regards to saving and loading)?

Interesting to note, that when I save files, delete the exported game, and then export the same game again, the save files are still there. (This is without the iscript box)

Saves are not stored in the same location as the exported files, thats why when you delete the same game the saves are still present once you export the same file.

And glad to see that works and yes you want to remove it after the first preview :P
