Report a translation problem
I think you should be able to use the menus to change things to look the way you like, but you can also use the console to set some things if you're comfortable with that.
Note that if you make any menu changes or use the console, be sure to then use the menus to save your config (unless you have autosave-on-quit enabled).
These settings should give you the classic Quake player skins:
These settings will give you color-tinted skins for team and enemy (not the pure solid color that nQuake defaults to):

BTW you will actually still need to buy the game if you want to play on the standard DM maps.
